Conquest: Frontier Wars

Conquest: Frontier Wars is an old Sci-Fi RTS that was released in 2001 by Ubi Soft. They have long since dropped support for the game so there are some issues running it on Vista.

I recently reinstalled the game on my Windows Vista installation to find that there was no sound in the game. I was able to trace this down to the fact that Windows Vista does not, by default, have the required audio codec (Intel Indeo Audio) available to it.

So I searched around for the codec, only to find that the only version that worked was included in the ACE Mega CodecS Pack (version 6.03). You can download the ACE Mega CodecS Pack from this link:

Free-Codecs.com :: Download ACE Mega CodecS Pack 6.03 - Professional Edition : This is the lastest and greatest release of famous ACE Mega CoDecS Pack

It's all fine and dandy to install the entire codec pack, unless you're like me and don't want all that EXTRA junk floating around inside your PC. I was able to install the Indeo Audio codec by itself using the Advanced/Custom install option. I deselected all the codecs except for the Indeo Audio codec (It's located under "Filters") and installed that way.
