Should i install games in program files(x86).

Does anyone know which folder i should be installing games in,they always go in program files(x86),but often wont update because the patch is looking for the game in program files and wont let me change the route?

My full spec:

I have a map in C: called 'Games' and I put all my games in there, patches find it easily.

Vista Ultimate x64 MAK, OpenSolaris 5, Gentoo 2008.1....

I use an second drive to avoid running into such things - typically D:\Program Files\
