Hey, I was wondering...

What are the best games for x64 and Vista in your opinion?

Note: I understand this is a very subjective question and bordering on rather pointless, but...

Note2: Because I only have wombat-driven dial-up, I still like a decent single player game. You know, with a storyline or purpose.

its not modern war tho, its gone back to world bore 2

...which are better games.

CoD 4 is really boring, I find. All the guns are pretty much equal. No need for snipers when you can get kills with the Mini Uzi from the other side of the map... The helicopters are just sad, and between them and the the airstrikes, take most strategy out of the game. Every game I've been in so far has just been a run 'n' gun.

However, I'd give CoD 5 a miss. It's made by Treyarch (CoD 3) and if it's anything as bad as that...

Yeah, I found Quake Wars rather RUN & GUN until I found the heavy machinegun and sat on a roof top blasting away at the Strogg. Okay, I got fast promotions and, admittedly, I didn't have time to get into the 'engineer' part of the game, but it was like a FPS version of a click-fest Diablo thingy...if you know what I mean.

I think a game has to have REAL character. Can I say that years back I enjoyed GTA3?

The games I'm most looking forward to are:
Brothers in Arms: IGN: Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway Screenshots, Wallpapers and Pics
Call of Duty 5: IGN: Call of Duty: World at War Screenshots, Wallpapers and Pics
Operation Flashpoint 2: Language Select
Far Cry 2: Age Gate | Far Cry 2 | Ubisoft

Call of Duty 4 MP is one dimensional. My biggest gripe is everyone runs their servers "hardcore", where a pistol shot to the toe does as much damage as an AK to the cranium... "hardcore" my keister. SP was cool, but it was way way too short. I wished they made it at least as long as CoD 2 because at least in the SP, the maps weren't just one big maze to run rats through and the story line was decent.

Frontlines: Fuel of War has been getting mostly bad PR, deservedly so. It has a lot of potential and I hear once they optimize it they may re-release it. My Brother in Law has it so I get to play when we visit, but the code is so poor that his machine struggles: Core2 Allendale @ 3.4GHz, 8800 gts (g80), 4GB, 64-bit Vista. Clearly, if this machine is struggling, the game isn't quite ready, but it's still neat, still has a nice story (that mirrors our current situation) and, well, you can pick up a copy really cheap on eBay. :D I heard they just released a patch so I might just do that?

I didn't like Quake Wars. Never was a big fan of sci-fi games; however, I must admit the game looks incredible, especially on 64-bit Vista. It's just too bad the hit detection still sucks.

I'm waiting for C&C Red Alert 3, I saw the system specs for that game. Two of the specs are 2GB's of ram minimum and dual or quad core cpu, and here's the third spec that I remember, at least 1 512MB videocard.

I've been playing COD4 this weekend. Looks and plays great at the highest settings. I finished it in about 6 hours. There were some clever moments, like the 'sniper' story, but I felt it could have been longer...and a little more clever (it did feel a little like a chapter from Stalker). For instance, the road chase felt like something from Nintendo 64's 007 series. And, really, they could have made that last bonus mission a little more exciting - perhaps ending it with a parachute ride down to Activision HQ!

Being a single-player only user (as I don't have a good Internet connection), I expect a good storyline that doesn't give you too much tunnel vision. I was really dissapointed with Doom 3 because of this tunnel effect. Anyway, I hope COD5 is longer and they add higher detail levels (of course they will). I mean, COD4 maxes out at 4xAA - not that its a big complaint. I must say I like the way these modern shooters do depth of field.

Direct X 10 wise I thought Bioshock was OK - nice visually and a couple of neat twists but all the levels are the same - It got really boring after a while. The same with Crysis - First half was really good but the developer ran out of ideas towards the end and it showed. Also, Why are there still 'bosses' in games? My flat mate develops games and tells me they are the computer game tradition - I think it's unimaginative and lazy design.

For me the best games to date is S.T.A.L.K.E.R and Oblivion - both are total open ended and will keep you going for ages (stalker was around 40+ hrs and Oblivion is currently 90ish hrs)

COD4 is way too linear IMO and a step backwards...come on game designers have some guts and do something interesting!!!

Now, a combination of Stalker and Oblivion would be interesting...even if it came on 4 DVDs. I liked Stalker's grittiness and atmosphere, but I found it wasn't as open-ended as promised. I like Oblivion's open endedness and character development, but it was too elfish and comical.

Few games I'm looking forward too this year, especially GTA4. Always find it 10x better on PC than console.

Valve have a nice looking game called Left 4 Dead, which is a co-op zombie survival game, which looks good fun.

And I'm in two minds about CoD World at War too, being made by Treyarch, who've never made a PC game before...and looking at what they've done on console with CoD...

Also Crysis Warhead should be fun too play, with the optimised Crytek engine, which is promised to run a lot smoother and not as demanding as Crysis 1.

I know alot of people who ran out to buy GTA4 for the 360......mixed responses - some loved it - some said too much hype it's OK (meaning Cr@p)

I'm hard to please - Console conversions for the PC usually don't work for me as Consoles are too limited and programmer are too lazy or just don't know how ( I know alot of them ( ooops said it again ) )to do a good job at reinventing the game for PC.....Shame!
