Trying to run crysis on XP virtual machine

Hi Haven't tried VMware on my Vista 64, though I have tried microsoft's own offering using my Windows Vista 64 system as a host to a Windows XP 32 guest. I installed Crysis in to my virtualized Windows XP 32 system but when I insert the disc in to DVD drive Crysis tells me it needs an original disc not a back up, [ and that is the original disc ] so I can't figure out why it thinks it is a back-up.

I had problems trying to game in a VM environment. I had an old 16 bit game I wanted to play and it didn't work well. Have you tried installing Crysis on your machine outside of the VM. It should work fine in Vista 64.

Re: Old XP installed on new host Vista system as a guest

hi rtt thanx for your interest much appreciated, to answer your question, yep I have Crysis installed on XP professional 32 bit, Vista 64 ultimate [ the first two are on an Athlon 64 4800 dualcore with Gainward 7600GT PC desktop ] and Vista 32 home premier and the first two work fine and third works but is very slow not because [ I suspect ] the machine is terrible though Crysis is a very tough game, but I would hope the laptop it runs on AMD Turion dualcore with ATI Mobility Radeon 2400 card to do better, but Toshiba's laptops are bonkers [ Nuts ] and their after sales service is a joke, they leave you waiting in the automatic call system whilst your phone bill is running up charges unlike other companies that answer the phone straight away and have a freephone number in to the bargain, I am sorry I did not build it myself like I did with my desktops. Trying to run crysis in VM was only an experiment.

AFAICT, running VMWare 6.5b on my machine, you don't get *direct* access to the disc, you get a virtualized access to it through a SCSI driver, and this causes issues with disc copy protection schemes.

Thanks for that John much appreciated, of course when some folks are advertising VM as the all dancing all singing, walking, talkin and chewin gum at the same time solution to everything they don't mention little issues like that...

I'll give it a whiz then with the MS FSX Flight Simulator, as that software does not require a copy protection disk to be left in the drive.
