Vista - Gears of war suddenly shuts down.

Hey guys! Was wondering if you can help. I am trying to play gears of war and it stops working right in the middle of me starting it up. It would play for a while load up and the game will stop working and the program closes. I tried installing it and running it as admin. Installed reinstalled the game and directX still nothing. Any course of action you can recommend would be appreciated.

i had the same problem, the only way i could get it to work was to use a no cd /dvd patch, hope this helps

I was going to try that thinking it has to do with the exe file. Before i dl a no/dvd patch i tried launching it via a chat service i use like x-fire. It works just fine, and i dl the patch anyway and it solved that problem too. I don't understand with those games, why make a game with a faulty application.

microsoft games always seem to be overcomplicated when it comes to the simplist things. For example to actually run the gears of war.exe you have to run the startup.exe first, which is the disk checker to see if the gears of war dvd is in ur drive. Usually its integrated into the games executable.

Try this one to see if it works for you ,it worked for me and i had the same fault as you by the sounds of it.
Here's what you do go to the folder where gears of war is installed, find the bineriers folder and then look until you find startup file , and make a short cut on to your desktop.
Then right click ,go to properties of the shortcut and click the shortcut tab and then click on the Advanced button. put a tick in the"run as adinistrator"box and click ok.
And then you are done, start the game from the short cut on your desktop and you should be away and running, hope this helps .

shaun21gb I have tried that before I posted on this forum and I am sorry to say it did not work. Thank you for your help.

I am going to post this info in the other thread i posted in. For me alot of the games didn't work and I was very frustrated. I have uninstalled and reinstalled my drivers so many times i can't count. I was told that when you uninstall drivers it nver really gets completely wiped from the system. So I got this program http://www.drivercleaner.net/ and I again uninstalled the drivers but then ran this program in safe mode. It wiped my display driver clean out of my system. Then without letting Vista install the drivers I installed the latest drivers myself and presto.
Now EVERY game I have had a problem with works flawless on the computer. I am not sure if this will help everyone but I was so frustrated that I gave it a try.
Please if there was another way to do this with out the program would you please tell me. TO THE ADMIN: I was going to copy and paste this post on 2 other threads i posted a problem in.

hey man what do u mean "without letting vista install the driver"? So if i run drivercleaner in safemode. Then do i install my drivers straight away in safe mode or starup normally then install my drivers?

it's not the driver nor the game, it's windows live thats causing the problem.
make sure you have the patches installed. only need the revised and certificate fix.

just click download latest update. run the app,login and let it update.
Technical Issues

after installing this on my vista 64 partition i can launch the game by any means
w/o a hitch,even from the game disk.(which everyone says not to) now GoW
runs just like it does on XP, perfect......
