Crysis Warhead on Vista x64

I recently installed vista x64. The OS itself flies, no lag and its very smooth. I installed Crysis Warhead and bumped up the settings to enthusiastic and the gameplay is very slow and lags. I put it on gamer and its fine. I had the game installed on xp x86 on enthusiastic settings and it would fly. Can someone explain why it lags on vista x64? I have the latest nvidia drivers, direct x 9.0c. Below are my PC specs. Thanks.

Because it will use DX10 on Vista, which is a lot more demanding, and as good of a card the 8800GTS is, Crysis Warhead on full settings might be pushing it a bit with DX10.

Yeah, it's the graphics card, stick another one and SLi it and you'll get less lag. I have a friend who runs it with two 8800's and it's pro.

For now you could try lowering your resoloution?

Just press alt+enter as soon as you see it's in windowed mode and it will go to full screen.

Unfortunately, it doesn't show a window, alt+enter doesn't work, and full screen is not checked. But it lags bad until I check full screen. Weird problem.

Hello friends!

New to the forum, new to Vista. I reluctantly upgraded from a custom XP Pro 32 bit setup to Vista Ultimate x64 yesterday. I couldn't pass up the deal I got on an OEM copy. I must say, I am extremely pleased! I don't know why all the hating on Vista, this OS flies! I really feel like I am taking advantage of my hardware now.

Anyway, on the topic of Crysis Wars and x64, I am having some issues myself. I figured out the alt-enter to get rid of the window, but I can't alt-tab out of the game when I have to do something else. Does anyone else have this trouble? Or a solution? Additionally, when trying to launch the game with xfire, I get get the following error;

"CmdLineExtInstallerExe.exe - Unable to Locate Component

This application has failed to start because WSOCK32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

Now, I know this is an xfire issue, and apparently they are working on it. But I thought I would toss it out here to see if anyone else has had this problem and if they found any solutions.

Thanks for your time!

Justin

PS Awesome site! This site has been the one tool I have used (besides vlite) to really tweak Vista. Love it!

I bought this game yesterday.

I was a tad dissapointed there was no 64bit bin since there is in Crysis.

However I've been playing through with the gamer settings and it all runs quite nicely, just started to encounter the aliens just destroyed the 1st exosuit.

Installing this game is crap with my quad core q9650 and 4870 x2. When I installed, the screen was off kilter and I had a handsome frog of a time even clicking on the buttons to change the settings, real pain. Lots of post about this on the EA forums. Once I got it to work it, and all was as it should be, the game was fine. I have a real hard time trusting EA with any new release, something always screws up and has to be fixed or wait for a patch....

Hewell agreed, this is the best site going for vista imo...

yes it is.

you have the 4870x2 and a Q9650 huh.. Nice system. Please tell me you have that Q9650 overclocked though.

I just got the Q9650. and it's by far the easiest CPU I've ever, ever overclocked. they reach 3.8 ghz or higher on Air with great temps. you could go to 3.8 Ghz and see a Great imporvement in your gaming on that x2.. you need around 3.4 ghz or so for it's full potential to come out.. the ATI card that is.

I'd OC that CPU.

and Warhead installed and ran fine for me. no problems like you're saying. Not sure what thats about

Never thought of overclocking, I have a great case as well that keeps the card running at about 74 degrees so maybe I will try it. Its getting cold up here now [I'm about 700 miles due north of you, :-)], so if i open the window it drops to about 66. Whats your temp. at 3.8? I forgot to mention that I have the download version of Warhead from the EA site, perhaps thats what caused the error. Thx for the info...

Need some help here:

Select GPU to configure:

ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 [L2410NM]

Overdrive enabled... temp. 72 degrees

GPU Clock: 790MHz

Memory Clock: 945MHZ

test custom clocks - passed

Current Values

GPU clock Memory clock
507MHZ 500MHz

fan speed 27%

Is this right?

I think xguntherc was talking about your CPU not your GPU but if everything is fine with that speed then your OK but still see if you can overclock your CPU which you need to do in the bios by changing the FSB.

To enter the Bios you need to press esc. just after you switch the computer on and you see the Post screen and you will normaly see the option somewhere to hit esc to enter the Bios.

Once your in Set your FSB to 400 and your multiplier to 9.5 and that will give you 3.8Ghz on you CPU and you will probably need to raise the vcore (cpu voltage) to about 1.325v to make it stable.

There are some guides on overclocking in this Forum that you might also be interested in reading before you make any changes, concerning other seting that you might want to tweak or disable, always know what your doing before making changes in the bios.

If you find yourself in the position that your setting have failed and you cant go into the bios to change them you will need to take the battery out of your motherboard to reset the cmos.

oh, duh, Thank you! As you can tell, I don't have the tech nohow to do this, and it scares me. I have read you can go to 4.0 but I'm not flirting with disaster.

I have p5q3deluxe motherboard and 4 gig ram, 850 power. Is that good enough to do the oc to 3.8?

I looked in bios can't find the settings, is it under ai tweaker or chip set?

Hey im on Vista 64 too as well with your exact card. I have an autoexec that i use and it's basically a modified enthusiast. I wasnt the one who made it up, someone on the Steam Forums created it and i just changed 2 or 3 things. He is the one who did most of the work:p

Im also running 2x AA because im just at 1440x900.

And overclocking your CPU will have barely any impact on performance. Overclocking your GPU however, will.

(incase you dont know, extract the cfg in the zip file and put it in your main crysis directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis WARHEAD )

There is no x64 exe for the game unlike crysis, so my guess would be the fact its not native mode means its losing quite badly....crysis had about 15-20% speed gain over xp using vista64 and the 64bit exe.

That said the game gets old real quick in solo player, How many times can you honestly be bothered playing through a game that takes a day to finish????? at least crysis wars justifies the price though.
