Vista - Ok little ticked at Vista at the moment :( COD5 problem

Ok well I went to install the COD5 beta and all went well and I caught you needed to install DirectX 9C even in Vista because it would not run without so I installed the August edition as I think that's the most current one and I opened the game to find this message...

Error during initialization: Unhandled Exception caught


All I wanted to do was play and now I can't very sad lol.


Any ideas? I have Vista 64 Ultimate.

O i see we have a gaming section lol.

How could I have missed that

Ok someone figured it out on callofduty.com

1- Go to Control Panel
2- The click on "Hardware and Sound"
3- Click on "Sound"
4- Doble click on "speakers"
5- go to the Advanced tab
6- Set the default format to "24 Bit, 48000 Hz (Studio Quality)"
7- Thats it!

Worked for me if anyone else has this problem

How about cards with no 24bits support?

It could be related to your sound hardware/driver that's reporting 24bits capabilities and the game tried to use it, and failed. Could you post your Sound Device information?

Well I am using a Asus laptop so it's nothing special.

That's it then.

Realtek High Definition Audio, even if host based, reports 24bits capabilities.
The game just tried to use it, and failed. Thus, it crashed.

Therefore, this should not happen with 16bits only Sound Devices, but then, 24bits should not be available to be selected either. Or it could also be related to Realtek CODEC Devices only.... *ponders*

Anyway, it's expected for a Beta to have some errors. It should probably be fixed before official release.

Fumz you can get the beta from Fileplanet but you have to be a subscriber to the site.

Well right in the Read me off the beat it says:

"SOUND CARD: 100% DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card"

Not 100% sure what that means when they are talking about a sound card, but if your sound card is not that it most likely will not work at all...

For a beta this really is quite good. Sounds are great, graphics are great, gameplay is pretty good. There aren't that many glitches to speak of as far as I can tell in the short time playing... certainly no game killers. When this comes out it's going to be pretty polished, which is cool... I'm buying. I just hope the maps get bigger now that there are vehicles. I always felt like a rat in a maze in CoD4.
