World of Warcraft / d3d9.dll probs

Hi guys I am really starting to pull my hair out with this one, i recently updated WOW to the pre "Wrath of the Lich King" patch and i went to run the program and it has suddenly stopped working with the error message "error - d3d9.dll is either an invalid win32 application or is corrupt" other programs have been flagging this up also but when i try and run the lastest dx patch it tells me i am up-to-date and if i try and copy a new d3d9.dll file into windows/system32 folder it tells me i do not have the rights.

    Please help, all suggestions welcomed!

Re: World of Warcraft / d3d9.dll probs

    Hi Raiyne,

It happens that fieseler another member here knew a way to allow the latest DX Redist to reinstall just yesterday

If you type regedit into the start menu search box & open it then go to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft

Find & right click the 'DirectX' folder on the left pane & click export, save it as directxreg_backup or something. Then delete the DirectX folder (do not delete it without backing it up first)

Now go to C:\windows\system32 & scroll through all the files until you find ones with names like d3d9.dll, d3d10.dll. The ones you need to look for specifically should be labelled d3dx9_xx.dll (where xx is a number)

Now you need to delete all d3dx files from d3dx9_24.dll to d3dx10_39.dll. Dont worrry about deleting the directx10 files, they do come bundled in the installer

Then use the directx end user installer to reinstall directx

Let us know how it turns out and give him a thanks here: How to uninstall DX9 from Vista
