Vista - Directx 10 problem

i had to reformat my computer becuase of a problem i was having with the internet. so i did, and now that i am reinstalling everything, but now i need Directx 10 and for some reason when i download the dxwebsetup.exe do get it, the screen stays on
"Initializing..."
then an error comes up saying.
"setup could not download the file. Please Retry later or check network connection."
It was been doing this for like 3 days now, so im not waiting later. and someone told me that it could be in my Windows folder, but i do not know where or how to fix it. does anyone have any idea how to fix this download thing.

Save yourself the hassle of trying to figure out what is wrong as that error has been happening to most since the web update version came out. Make things easy on yourself and just download and run the redistributable instead,

ok so i downloaded that, extracted the files to a folder, and ran the DXSETUP and i get this error.

"An internal system error occured.
Please refer to your DXError.log and Directx.log in your windows folder to determine the problem."

i have no idea what is up.

Just so you know Vista comes with DX10

i think that is when you purchase the full thing, i have purchased the upgrade.

copy and paste this into the start menu search dxdiag and look at the bottom and it will tell you what version of DX you have.

well it says directx 10, but when i load my game up called Lineage 2, it says i need directx 9 or better, and i have been playing that game for years.

The first log file indicates installation was successful. It looks like the DX10 files were all skipped

What does running DXDIAG do? Indicate Direct X 9?

Start>Run> DXDIAG

When you run that "directx_nov2008_redist.exe" 86.2MB file and it extracts files, it should use hidden folder:

C:\Users\Jeff\\AppData\Local\Temp\"Folder with all the setup files to"

Just like in above log

C:\Users\Jeff\AppData\Local\Temp\WLXPL_DX which sounds like Direct X 9 for XP.
