Need For Speed Undercover

Hello

I recently bought this game and I have small issue. My system overcomes the required needs but the game still won't run smoothly I tried to lower the details, resolution, and all of that didn't help. There are moments that it runs smooth, yet in another minute there's a drop of gameplay speed, though the frame counter in Fraps reports that framerate is i.e. 40fps.

Today I also tried the latest WHQL NVidia drivers - 180.48. Unfortunately this didn't render any positive effect in the game

GPU temp while gaming doesn't exceed 54C...

Anyone having the same problem ?
Any ideas how to solve it ?

I'm having the exact same problem, also HD4850, E8500, 2 gigs ddr3, Vista 64, even using the lowest possible settings.

Anybody have any solutions or the same experience?

Re: Need For Speed Undercover

I have to admit, I'm currently playing on a downloaded version of NFSU, the game is to be released today, I got it preordered and yesterdays evening I got an email that the game was sent to me (yay ). I hope that this issue that is occuring while playing now, this speed and smoothness issue, will be ceased while playing using the original game. Maybe it's some kind of new antipiracy development to prevent normal gameplay without the dvd or on the cracked versions of game.

As soon as I get my hands on the NFSU dvd I'll post if the issue was solved

Re: Need For Speed Undercover

thanks, i thought it may be my system. Probably going to try a re-install of Vista sometime, as there are other issues as well.

Re: Need For Speed Undercover

i don't think that the issue is because it's pirated.
almost everybody who played the game says that he have a lot of problems.
it's half cooked game, another disappointment from a game series that was once great!

Re: Need For Speed Undercover

OK, mine is fixed and heres how i did it, this may not be the issue with you guys though.
I noticed that there was strange hard drive activity, like on for a second, off for a second, continuously . This just started happening recently. I noticed svchost.exe was using between 10 & 25% CPU all the time.
With process explorer i saw that wmiprvse.exe was the thread doing the damage, not sure what it does but its a system process started by svchost.exe.
Stopping the wmiprvse.exe process does nothing as it just restarts, and suspending it before u load the game doesnt work as the game wont load if u do,
u need to load the game alt+tab out and suspend the process then play the game as it should be played.
On my above system i run all the settings on max and 1280x1024 resolution and its smooth!
Hope this helps!

PS: if any of u guys have an idea of why that process is doing this any input would be great.
Thanks!

Re: Need For Speed Undercover

Its several layers deep, look under wininit.exe -> services.exe -> svchost.exe -> should be there, afaik its on all Vista PC's
