Need For Speed Undercover

Hello :)

I recently bought this game and I have small issue. My system overcomes the required needs but the game still won't run smoothly :( I tried to lower the details, resolution, and all of that didn't help. There are moments that it runs smooth, yet in another minute there's a drop of gameplay speed, though the frame counter in Fraps reports that framerate is i.e. 40fps.

Today I also tried the latest WHQL NVidia drivers - 180.48. Unfortunately this didn't render any positive effect in the game :(

GPU temp while gaming doesn't exceed 54C...

Anyone having the same problem ?
Any ideas how to solve it ?

I'm having the exact same problem, also HD4850, E8500, 2 gigs ddr3, Vista 64, even using the lowest possible settings.

Anybody have any solutions or the same experience?

I have to admit, I'm currently playing on a downloaded version of NFSU, the game is to be released today, I got it preordered and yesterdays evening I got an email that the game was sent to me (yay :D). I hope that this issue that is occuring while playing now, this speed and smoothness issue, will be ceased while playing using the original game. Maybe it's some kind of new antipiracy development to prevent normal gameplay without the dvd or on the cracked versions of game.

As soon as I get my hands on the NFSU dvd I'll post if the issue was solved :)

thanks, i thought it may be my system. Probably going to try a re-install of Vista sometime, as there are other issues as well.

i don't think that the issue is because it's pirated.
almost everybody who played the game says that he have a lot of problems.
it's half cooked game, another disappointment from a game series that was once great!

My Computer

OK, mine is fixed and heres how i did it, this may not be the issue with you guys though.
I noticed that there was strange hard drive activity, like on for a second, off for a second, continuously . This just started happening recently. I noticed svchost.exe was using between 10 & 25% CPU all the time.
With process explorer i saw that wmiprvse.exe was the thread doing the damage, not sure what it does but its a system process started by svchost.exe.
Stopping the wmiprvse.exe process does nothing as it just restarts, and suspending it before u load the game doesnt work as the game wont load if u do,
u need to load the game alt+tab out and suspend the process then play the game as it should be played.
On my above system i run all the settings on max and 1280x1024 resolution and its smooth!
Hope this helps!

PS: if any of u guys have an idea of why that process is doing this any input would be great.
Thanks!

I don't even have this process when i play the game :P

It is hidden in windows task manager, u will only be able to see it using process explorer.
Just google sysinternals process explorer and get it.

downloaded process explorer, still don't see that process, the only similar thing i got
was wmipsrvd.dll and i didn't found the option to suspend/end it.

Its several layers deep, look under wininit.exe -> services.exe -> svchost.exe -> should be there, afaik its on all Vista PC's

Here u go, its the one in grey.

Oh and thanks mansrm81 but I have eliminated task scheduler as the culprit, it is wmiprvse.exe, suspending the process fixed the prob for me.

Well, finally I got my hands on the original Need For Speed Undercover DVD :D And like I hoped before, while playing using the original DVD there are no stutters, no smoothness issues :D The game runs at full details on my system, on 4xAA :D Finally I can play this game without frustration :)

When i run the game it runs, but as soon as the EA Intro ends. I get a white screen. I assume its when i am in the Main Screen of the game. So its just white when i move my mouse around i hear sounds of tabs probably within the main screen my specs are.

It looks to me like your GPU is not supported by the game itself...

what do you mean by gpu

Graphical Proccesing Unit - in other words your graphic card.

Maybe you should check if there are any new drivers for it.

NFSU officially supports these graphic chips:

ATI
Radeon 9500
Radeon 9600
Radeon 9700
Radeon 9800
Radeon X550
Radeon X600
Radeon X700
Radeon X800
Radeon X850
Radeon X1300
Radeon X1600
Radeon X1800
Radeon X1900
Radeon HD 2400
Radeon HD 2600
Radeon HD 2900
Radeon HD 3400
Radeon HD 3600
Radeon HD 3800
Radeon HD 4800

Intel G45 GPU

NVIDIA
GeForce 6600
GeForce 6800
GeForce 7 series
GeForce 8 series
GeForce 9 series
GeForce GTX 260
GeForce GTX 280

In the readme file of the game there's also a statement that some laptop graphic cards *COULD* handle this game, but they are not fully supported.
