Fallout 3 - x86 Only?

Romantix

New Member
Well, theoretically, i purchased Fallout 3 recently and the installation requires x86 architecture to continue.

I plan on running vmware with x86 xp pro platform to confirm that it cannot be installed on 64-bit. Although, every recent game seems to run fine under vista ultimate x64.. and considering fallout3 is very new, you think it would work aok =/

Can anyone comment on this?

Theoretically hey? ;)

It's working fine on x64 here. I don't remember having any issues with installing it either

Have you got SP1 installed etc. Tried running the setup as administrator?

Feel free to post a screenie.

Downloading Sp1...

And yes.. this is theoretically speaking. I will simplify this theoretical enquiry.

My "friend" has purchased Fallout 3

I.. created a image of this media (which i have done on many occasions) and virtualised the installation. for.. backup purposes ofcourse (incase my friend loses/scratches his media)

;)

lol. He's a very popular 'friend' ;)

I used PowerISO to mount my backup copy of FO3.

If you still have a problem after installing SP1 and all the updates, post back :)

Have you tried updating Fallout 3? Also if you want a program to manage screenshots, there's a free program called Xfire that you can download from Xfire - Gaming Simplified. you can take screenshots while in game by pressing scroll lock+s and you can take as many as you want while playing without manually saving them, then once you exit the game, you can choose to upload them to your xfire profile.

I have fallout 3 and it will fail to run on my system. I have win vista x32. Does that mean i cannot play it unless i have x64? It will run then it would just shutdown and not respond. I am getting that with far cry 2 and crysis warhead also. Both games will not allow me to play them in full screen. says mode not supported with farcry. I am at my wits end and about to just sell the games.

Have you tried just running setup.exe?

What app are you using to mount it? I'm guessing that if you can access the autoplay.exe, it's mounting fine.

OK, First of all, we need a small lesson in architecture.

32bit PCs and 64bit PCs are *both* x86 architecture - the former being x86 and the latter being x86-64, which is commonly (and erroneously) referred to as x64 (even I do it).

Secondly - unless a program is going to install *drivers* of any type, 32bit program run on 64bit OSs (of course, of the same type - don't expect a 32bit *nix app to necessarily run on Windows).

Thirdly - I am playing Fallout3 on Vista x64 using *only* Virtual Clone Drive 5411/5412 (start with 5411, then upgraded to 5412 beta from FileForums after it was released) with no real problems - every once in a while I'll start the game and it will crash, but I am pretty sure it is not because of the VCD....

Fourthly - All Hail the Brotherhood of Steel. :p

I am going to post this info in the other thread i posted in. For me alot of the games didn't work and I was very frustrated. I have uninstalled and reinstalled my drivers so many times i can't count. I was told that when you uninstall drivers it nver really gets completely wiped from the system. So I got this program drivercleaner.net and I again uninstalled the drivers but then ran this program in safe mode. It wiped my display driver clean out of my system. Then without letting Vista install the drivers I installed the latest drivers myself and presto.
Now EVERY game I have had a problem with works flawless on the computer. I am not sure if this will help everyone but I was so frustrated that I gave it a try.
Please if there was another way to do this with out the program would you please tell me. TO THE ADMIN: I was going to copy and paste this post on 2 other threads i posted a problem in.

I'm having an issue myself. I got Fallout 3 on Steam, but whenever I hit 'Play' on the splash screen, a window for the game opens and then it crashes. I've tried redownloading and verifying the files and whatnot, but nothing works. Any ideas?

Try downloading the patch off the Fallout 3 website. Steam might not download it, so you'll have to do it manually if you haven't already patched it.
