Well I got this problem and I can't find a solution.

I got halo 2 6 months ago and I tried to install it, when I was on the menu where it asks for a folder to be installed and below it says "Full install only, do not start." I pressed continue and nothing happens It's not installing because I can't see the process ( I mean the process, not a window), I found this very annoying and I really need help I hope you can reply as soon as possible.

PC:
Windows Vista Ultimate x32 (Rank 4.9) and XP Professional.
HDD 10 Gb Free
1 Gb DDR2
GeForce 8500 GT 512 Mb

There's 3 ways to install Halo 2 (Progressive install while playing the game, normal install while on desktop, and a 3rd that I can't remember) have you tried all 3?

Apparently, the Startup.exe file is screwed up. But there's an install fix out now that replaces any buggered Startup.exe with a proper one, so you original owners will have to ISO your disc and use that Startup.exe to install and play.

I know this was posted a year a half ago but i just upgraded to windows 7 and had this problem but i managed to fix it (if you still wanted to play halo 2)

Press Start and type in Services.msc
Go down to Secondary Logon
Right Click and Go To Properties
Change start type to Automatic and click Ok
Right Click and click Start
Now try installing again

Worked for Me
Hope it works for You

Hello miniturehero and Matty0074,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

Yeah, I think this was probably an inference with the installation due to one of the running services; ultimately corrupting some of the game's files.

Most installation problems are a result of such an issue.

To prevent any third party services from intereferring with the installation, completely un-install the program, and do the following:

  • Press the Windows key + R
  • Type in the Run command: msconfig
  • Select the "Services" tab
  • Check the box entitled "Hide All Microsoft Services"
  • Click "Disable all"
  • Click "Apply"
  • Click "OK"
  • Restart your computer and re-install.

Just for forum's sake... do any of the Microsoft.com downloads "Games for Windows Live" (v1, v2, v3 are offered...) "hotfixes" (not sure what to call them) have any impact on compatibility/success of installation or running of these games?

I can't seem to grasp what the platforms, as the site calls them, are truly for!

I recently had an issue with installing SP2, I followed these instructions and now SP2 installed just fine.

Thank you for telling me to look at this post. I appreciate that Chase. :D
