Halo 1 will not work

Hey everybody I installed the original Halo last night really excited to play again after almost two years. I can't get the game to launch correctly. The game starts, it shows the bungie, gearbox, then microsoft game studios opening credits, then goes to a black screen with the menu music playing. I've managed to start a campiegn level, join online servers and everything but it stays on either a black screen or on one of the credits screens.

I've tried reinstalling, updating the game via Halo Update, I've used compatibility mode (XP, 98, 95, 2000, even tried server). I'm at a total loss and have no idea what to do.

Rig:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Black Edition 3.2 Ghz
4 GB ram @ 800 Mhz
HIS ATi Radeon 3850 512mb Turbo-Clocked
Vista Home Premium 64 bit

Also, Microsoft's site says here that it should work on both 32 and 64.

Hmmm...I just loaded my game after reading this post, and Yes, it does run on Vista 64... without any compatibility modes. Have you checked you video card drivers?

Which Catalyst drivers are you using? I'm using the 8.11 drivers on a 4850.

Try updating your Direct X files; I know it sounds crazy, but give it a try anyway. Other then that, I got my game up and running without any issues, even fully patched. So...

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the game. Also is that an AGP card? If so do you have the latest AGP hotfix drivers?

I think the latest ones are 8.10, don't know if the 8.11's are out yet as I don't have an AGP card. Look here for the 8.10's - AMD Customer Care

I uninstalled the 8.11 drivers, installed the 8.10 ones and then installed the 8.10 hotfix. Still won't work.

Have you tried playing other games? Test to see if the card is working with other games? Also, are you overclocking? If so try turning down the overclock and see what happens. Other then that, I don't know what else to say.

Breaking news - the new Cat 8.12's are out! Check to see if these will work.

I used to do this on older computers so I dont know if it applies to newer comps. I would lower the resolution on the monitor before playing, sometimes fixed black screen problems. I know most games do this automatically but sometimes it doesnt work correctly.

Just a thought
