| Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit | [Solved] I'm having problems with the game Star Wars Jedi Knight Dark Forces II.. Uhhm, greetings. ^^; So, I have this one old game, Star Wars Jedi Knight Dark Forces II.. I decided to try if the game would work on my laptop (Acer Aspire 5520), but it doesn't work correctly at all. The installation progress went just fine. Then I started the game and the intro movie worked well, however, when I got to the main menu, the screen was all black! I could hear the sounds and I could see the cursor, but nothing else. I tried this Alt + Tab trick and thank goodness, it worked. Now I could see the menu and such. Then I tried to start a new game. The small movie clip played without any problems and then it loaded the level for me. Well, the screen was okay and all that, but when I press Esc, the screen is again all black. The Alt + Tab trick worked again here. Goody. So question number one is, is there any sort of way how I can get rid of those black screens? Not to mention, but using the Alt + Tab trick always is pretty annoying. Edit: Well, no more black screens. Goody! (This is because I did the "GUI windowed" thingy.) However, now that I did that, I have another problem with it.. Blinking edges. (Or whatever that... "Edge" is called. ^^; (I feel like a n00bie now..)) Edit 2: Yay! Now the edge is gone for good. ..See my post down below if you're interested. ^^But that's not the only problem, nuh-unh. Unfortunately. Kyle is facing down. I think there's no need to mention it, but shooting enemies and such is pretty hard when Kyle keeps on facing down. I can try to use the mouse to make him look up, but when I try to make Kyle look up, he starts to look at the floor again. It's like that he's forced to look at the floor. The question number two is, does this happen because I'm using a joystick? I hope not, because I'm used to play this game by using joystick.. Edit: I managed to solve the question number two. The game doesn't seem to like the joystick. *sigh* Well, gotta play this on keyboard.. Oh yes, if anyone is interested, the joystick is Logitech Precision. ![]() I have tried to use the compatibility mode, but it hasn't helped at all. No matter which compatibility mode I use, the same problems keep on occurring. Help a little n00blet around? ^^' Are there any patches or something like that to fix these problems? Thanks in advance! ^^ Oh yes, I'm sorry if I did some typos.. n_n; Last edited by Pupu; 12-11-2008 at 06:42 AM.. |

Star Wars Jedi Knight Dark Forces 2 black screen If not, search on this forum, I remember seeing a post about how a member was able to make the old games play in Vista. IIRC, this has everything to do with those games not supporting the high resolution newer PC's are capable off of now... I could be totally wrong though. |

| Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit | Re: I'm having problems with the game Star Wars Jedi Knight Dark Forces II.. That thread that you linked was really useful. Thank you. ^_^ However, I've got now one problem now that I did that.. "GUI windowed" thingy, whatever it was called again. I took two screenshots of it, so I did put them as a attachment. The screenshots maybe don't really show my problem.. But the problem is that... "Edge". Uh, I don't know what it's called.. Well, anyway, it blinks a lot and it's very annoying. Anyway, I found the answer by myself to the question two. Unfortunately, the game does not approve if I use the joystick. The old computer didn't have anything against the joystick.. *mumble* |

"Edges" is solved, too! *happy* I just did put the "video mode" into 640 x 480 and now it's good, no more blinking edges. Yay! So.. I guess this problem is now solved. ![]() Thanks for helping me out, by the way. ^^ |
