This is a quote i had written up roughly a month ago, ofcourse prices have gone up, and i actually ended up with a HD4870 1GB and i couldn't order the Phenom in for a long ****in time so i ended up with a intel 2.3 quad, which does the job nicely :) was probably better off with a dual core for gaming, but.. board supports i7 im sure, so wont be too long for a upgrade to 3.4 quad ;) hope this helps

If you would like the spreadsheet (excel) ill be more than happy to forward, just hit me up on msn. But it all comes down to preference and what the desktop is going to be used for

Which version of windows are you using - 32 or 64 bit? It better be 64-bit since you'll be craming 6gig of memory in that system.

i asked a fellow atomican about 64 or 32 they said dosnt matter ,for gaming what are your thoughts

It most definitely matters!!! A 32-bit OS is only capable of 4gig max! Your video card will automatically take up 2gig! With the 4gig of system memory you plan on installing, you will lose two of it because there will be no room left for the other two.

Heres a good article explaining this here http://www.corsair.com/_appnotes/AN804_Gaming_Performance_Analysis.pdf. Check out the illustrations on pages 2 & 3

At any rate I would go with Vista 64 if you want to use 4 or more gig of memory. However, with vista 64, you need to make sure your programs are compatible with a 64-bit OS. And yes, gaming on Vista 64 is just fine.

If you go with a 32-bit OS, since your video card is 2gig, then i would just get 2gig of memory because again, anything more would be wasted.
