Re: Battlefield 2 Special Forces

kashusmc welcome to the forums.

Are you trying to install SF on an already installed and patched BF2, or is this a fresh install of both?

If it is an existing and patched BF2, as far as I know you can't install SF on to it and you need to start from scratch (uninstall BF2, install SF, then install the 1.41 patch). If it is a clean install of both, is the second SF disk clean and scratch-free?

The proper install order for BF2 and the expansions is,

BF2
SF
the 1.41 patch (only need the 1.41 full patch as it includes everything from previous patches)
Euro Forces
Armored Fury (if you have either of them)
the 1.41 patch again
Highway Tampa (if you like armor, this map is a blast)

Re: Battlefield 2 Special Forces

I had BF2 installed before but uninstalled it. Now i reinstalled BF2 then tried SF without any updates to BF2. Ill clean all the disk and get back on weither it worked or not later.

Thanks.

Re: Battlefield 2 Special Forces

Probably find that it is left over registry entries that are causing the problem. Go here,

ANSWER

and follow the instructions on removing any leftovers and then try installing again.

Re: Battlefield 2 Special Forces

Yeah I know about that but when I delete it and go to the reg and all that nothing is there. Heres the laydown.

New laptop. Installed BF2 and played for awhile then stopped and deleted. Now I reinstalled BF2. Then once I installed and restarted I installed BF2: SF I keep getting this error....

Re: Battlefield 2 Special Forces

Can find a few references to that error,

failed to install battlefield 2 : special forces, try again from the beginning - Google Search

and the only one I can see that even remotely says that they solved it is this one,

Failed to install, please try installation again from the beginning - Tactical Gamer

which turned out to be a dirty disk, and once cleaned it installed.

If all else fails try contacting EA and see what they have to say. Only probelm with that is that with Christmas tomorrow and the weekend close after, it may take until Monday to get a response (that isn't the useless copy and paste kind). If you do contact them make sure to include everything you have tried to get it to install; also include a link (not sure if they accept attachments) of that screen shot.

Re: Battlefield 2 Special Forces

Ill try the manual install later tonight if I have time. Is there anyway to find out if my BF2 is SOMEHOW still patched and a way to delete it to the vanilla bf2??

Re: Battlefield 2 Special Forces

Only way to get it back to vanilla is to uninstall normally, and then go through the registry and delete any of the entries in that EA link I posted a couple of posts ago. Then you install BF2 and no patches (and don't play either), and then install SF, then install the 1.41 patch.
