Setpoint not working properly with COD4

I didn't know if this should go in another area or not so I just chose this one.

Anyways, my issue is I have a G5 mouse running Vista Ultimate x64. I have the Logitech SetPoint software to run at startup, but when I go into COD4 and then to controls and set the "throw frag grenade" to Mouse 5 nothing happens but on my G5 the DPI setting light goes from the top LED to the middle one as if I pressed the button to lower the DPI setting on the mouse.

Now I found a work around which was to go into the Startup folder and go into the properties of the shortcut for Setpoint and choose "run as administrator". However, everytime I boot the system it tells me that Setpoint was blocked by UAC and if I want to unblock it I have to choose to manually unblock it. This occurs EVERYTIME I boot up, however, this issue doesn't happen on my laptop which has the same software version of Setpoint and the same mouse, only difference is my laptop has Vista Home Premium.

So with all that in mind, my question is why do I have to run Setpoint as an administrator and tell it to manually run at startup on one system but on another it runs just fine?

I have tried to find on my laptop what if any difference there might be in the Setpoint software but I can't find any.

P.S. - on COD5 the setpoint works just fine.....go figure

Re: Setpoint not working properly with COD4

Ok, just a quick update. I finally got Setpoint to startup without having to keep telling windows that I want it to unblock it.

I noticed on my laptop the Setpoint.exe was in the startup file under "all users". But I had it under my user, so I moved the shortcut and TA DA! It is now starting up without having me to tell it to unblock.

However, the issue with Mouse 5 not working is still an issue. I will try running Setpoint as an administrator and see if anything changes. I will post an update.

Re: Setpoint not working properly with COD4

Ok, if I right click on the Setpoint shortcut and click "run as administrator" UAC comes up and asks for my permission to run it. When I go into COD4 the Mouse 5 works, but if I don't run Setpoint as an administrator Mouse 5 doesn't work.

But on my laptop I am NOT running Setpoint as an administrator.....hmmm.

I'll keep trying.

Yep, I also have to do the annoying "Allow" everytime I boot up if I want Setpoint to work with any of the latest games.

Re: Setpoint not working properly with COD4

if you keep getting bugged by uac trying to execute a program, im not sure if your start up item will be affected but ive attached a pic, right click the shortcut and properties and click on the unblock button

MrNeeds, I checked that pic you attached but I don't have an unblock button on the properties of my shortcut. What version of windows vista is that coming up on?

Re: Setpoint not working properly with COD4

Ok, I think I have it fixed. While searching google I found this on another forum How to get Logitech SetPoint working with Vista - nV News Forums it talks about creating a scheduled task to get rid of that annoying UAC. It directed me to another site, this one SlickDeals.net Forums - View Single Post - Vista Blocked Programs at Startup- Fix Once and for All, on how to create a scheduled taks for Setpoint. I tried it and it worked!!! Mouse 5 even works in COD4 and COD:WaW! Go check it out.

Re: Setpoint not working properly

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but i had to registar to thank BigTex79 above, YOU'RE A LIFE SAVER!

fresh install of Windows 7 here and i could not get Key mappings to work on MX Revolution mouse unless i ran SetPoint as an administrator. I could not for the life of me figure out why once i ran it as Admin it would not start up with windows, but reading this thread i learned that it has to do with UAC. I followed your steps to set up SetPoint as a scheduled task at start up / login and it worked like a charm! now the Logitech MX Revolution starts up with windows, and the mappings switch along with the applications as they should.

Thanks so much here, you saved me hours of pulling my hair out.
