Can't play nothing on vista

Hi guys:

I got a really weird problem wth my vista. Every time i try to play game that's not on the list of games in the start menu (like some "old" games) they ALWAYS crash with some kind of error even if I put the compatibility stuff on them. searched the errors on the internet but nobody has them so i got stuck here unable to play nothing.

Hope you can help me.

P.S My computer is a laptop Sony Vaio VGN-NR3350FE.
Core 2 Duo T5550
3 gigs of RAM
250gb HD

Re: Can't play nothing on vista

Perhaps if you posted a list of the games here someone can tell you if they'll even run on Vista. I've been running a few old 98, ME, 2K, XP games on Vista while many written for XP won't since those are written for that version alone.

Re: Can't play nothing on vista

Integrated graphics or is there an actual graphics chip? =P Integrated graphics will attempt to load the game and crash (assuming it's opengl/d3d) if it's not strong enough. Easiest way to check is to look for a "ATI" or "NVIDIA" sticker on the laptop.

Re: Can't play nothing on vista

I couldn't find that model or any NR series while there is the NS series notebooks seeing:
  • Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD with Intel® Clear Video technology with up to 1750MB (max) (depending on RAM configuration) total available graphics memory10
Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset NS Series

Is that what you have there?

Re: Can't play nothing on vista

The thing you can try besides looking over the individual game requirements would be running the dxdiag command at the Run prompt. While onboard graphics usually doesn't offer much support you still should be able to start as far the settings in order to scale things down a little like resolution, details.

Re: Can't play nothing on vista

I think the X3100 is suiteable for business 3D graphics use (aka minor stuff) but would not support games. My brother's Fujitsu has that and cannot play Half-Life on it.

Re: Can't play nothing on vista

Yeah I am going to agree on that one, there something really slow about the way that graphics processor does games. It is smoking fast in business apps though.

Re: Can't play nothing on vista

If you can't even run a game like half Life on it I think you already have the question answered for the most part. You can that one on a low end 128mb AGP card with only 512mb system memory with the details and resolution set low however.

Re: Can't play nothing on vista

Well according to the system specs it should be able to run even some games like assassin's creed (of course all details set to the minimum) but if there no other choice i think that i will not play any games on my laptop. If there is a way to put a grphic card (not an integrated) on a laptop maybe i could play something there. Thank you guys for your help.
