FSX on Vista 64 gone wrong

I tried installing it on my laptop with Ultimate 64, and no matter what I tried, it would stop while accessing D1feat~7 (.cab file)

It works just fine installed on 32 bit, but fails the 64 bit test. Any ideas (for any other simmer here or not )

I tested an install on the lappy because I was going to install Ultimate 64 on my desktop after getting that 4GB DDR2800 G.Skill RAM

Specs:
Q6600 ~2.983GHz ~1326FSB (I'll call it 3GHz on 1333)
DG35EC Motherboard (don't ask how I did the overclock )
2GB PNY Optima DDR2667
EVGA GeForce 8400 GS 512 (TurboCache, give me a new PSU and I'll update this)
320GB Hitachi Deskstar 7200RPM, 250GB Maxtor (Secondary)

etc, etc, etc..

I doubt much else is needed to solve this (if possible)

Nick

you need to see if the laptops processor supports 64bit operating systems, if it doesnt then you got no chance of installing it on the laptop, however, the desktop will not have such problems running vista 64.

Core 2 Duo T9300? I highly doubt its not EMT64 or the like

FSX also runs just fine on 32bit systems

your desktop will be quite capable running vista 64 with your current setup, laptops maybe more difficult as they dont have vista 64bit drivers on the disc for laptop components.

Re: FSX on Vista 64 gone wrong

I'll see when its installed. Now leave me to my overclocking that I am working on now Seems I will have to install Vista 64 before I can definitively say that FSX will not install on x64 systems.

Thanks,

Nick

Re: FSX on Vista 64 gone wrong

The FSX Demo does not utilize 64 bit, although will run on the system. Not valid comparision as it is barely comparable to the 15GB+ full version. DX10 is a main reason as to why.

Edit: lol hit 3.43GHz and windows blew up on me ^^ Anyone know what a 'safe' max is for freq in windows? or was it instability(<-probably this)

3Ghz is quite stable, my fan is too damn loud if i get it to 3Ghz+, idle temp is 37c with that clock, i dont really want the temp to go over 40c idle. reduces life span of the proc
