Battlefield 2

I recently tried to run BF2 and before the game even hit the splash screens, it would exit to my desktop. I tried again and encountered the same issue. Prior to installing my new video card, BF2 ran without a problem, but now it can't even open. I've got a nasty hankering to play it and I'm left disappointed

Anhy suggestions?

Thanks-

Ink

Re: Battlefield 2

Quick thing to check.
Check your refresh rate, if its anything other than 60, you have to change the setting to 60 for it to run, or follow the below instructions

Quote:
Find the file "VideoDefault.con" in the "Settings" folder.

Change the following line: renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 0
To: renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 1

After performing this simple operation, you will be able to set refresh rates higher than 60Hz.

What's your new video card? Maybe it is interfering with BF2, or it simple can't play it.

Re: Battlefield 2

Just picked up a new sony vaio all in one desktop.
It has the Intel q45graphics chipset with what it is showing to be 1750 mb graphic memory.
Will I be able to run the newest games with this built in graphics or was this a waste of money?
Really love to play the BF2 series and BF2142.

Re: Battlefield 2

msessums welcome to the forums.

In your case I wouldn't hold out much hope of playing much of anything recent on that Intel graphics. Just to give you an idea,

Intel DG45ID Motherboard Review - Game Performance - Reviews by ExtremeTech

probably find that even something as old as BF2 would struggle on it. What is the model number of your new Vaio? Might be worth looking intogetting a video card if you really want to play games on it.

Re: Battlefield 2

Looks pretty,

VGC-JS130J/P | VAIO® JS Series Desktop PC | Sony | SonyStyle USA

but you will definitely not be adding a video card to it. Unfortunately if you want a computer to play games on (other than solitaire) you're going to have to look at something else.

Re: Battlefield 2

Sorry to let you know this but I'm pretty sure you won't be able to play any good games on your computer. The computer itself is okay but you have an integrated/built-in chip. It's not even a real graphics card. It just helps with low graphics for low requirement stuff. However, check if you have an extra slot cause then you can buy a new graphics card and plug it in. But remember, if this is the case, make sure that the graphics card you buy is not so power hungry that it uses more energy than your power supply can make. Trust me, you don't want that kind of problem.

Re: Battlefield 2

Lets get back to ink`s problem instead of just hijacking his post.
If you have changed any hardware and it will no longer run, have you tried to uninstall Battlefield 2 then reinstall it.

Re: Battlefield 2

The splash screen problem is a known bf2/2142 problem, you have to either change the video refresh setting to whatever your desktop is set to, or change the setting so it allows all refresh rates.

It wont even get to the splash screen with the robot walking on 2142, it just blinks once and crashes.
