persistent "please insert original CD" error

i have just recently upgraded from WinXP pro to Vista Ultimate x64 and have been running into a very annoying problem. i was trying to install a few of my favorite games back onto the computer and was able to install successfully, however when i try to run them i get a "please insert the original/disk 1/the correct disk into the drive" message, even though i can see the disk and explore it through the my computer window, but it just wont let me run it. at first i thought that this might be a problem because the game i was trying to install was released before vista(battlefield 2142), so i tried one that was designed to be compatable with vista(call of duty 4), but i got the same problem. then i thought that it might be my dvd drive, so i created an image file from the disc and put it on an emulated drive, but still same problem. please help me fix this, i want to hit the battlefield again
