My computer won't read Empire: TW's disc

Hello!

So, I just bought Empire: Total War and now I can't install it. My DVD-drive won't read the DVD. I tried the DVD with my other comp that has XP-32 and it read it fine. Where should I start troubleshooting this problem?

This may sound silly, but have you made sure the dvd drive is plugged in and made sure that it is a dvd drive?? (i have done this before).
does your drive read other dvds??

Re: My computer won't read Empire: TW's disc

It is plugged in! The drive is DVD+-RW Dual layer drive, so it shouldn't have any problems. I just tried Crysis Warhead DVD and it didn't read that anymore. Seems like it has stopped working again. I had similar problem in august 2008, when my drive read Crysis DVD fine, but after reboot it wouldn't read anything. I got it solved by getting another drive, but now that this one doesn't also read disc's, I'm beginning to believe it has something to do with my computer.

are you using SATA or IDE? change the cables and if possible, change from the slot it is plugged into right now.

Re: My computer won't read Empire: TW's disc

+ 1 on the SATA or IDE...

Since it is not reading any cd/dvds, you may have botched something on the registry. I know there is a workaround but if you are not savy working on the registry, I would advice against it... from personal experience!

From what I read some of the new games come with some sort of DRM/securom that does not like SATA CD/DVD Roms because it reads them like a virtual drive or something of that nature. Stupid way to counter piracy because it puts a strain on the paying customers but... that's an issue.
