Hi

I have vista 64bit and for some reason, when i play gta4, it will remove my desktop background! and then i have to manually set the background back on again.

Is there any reason it does this? and anything i can do to stop it?

Thanks!

This reminds me the old days of XP. Had problems similar problems but never figured it out neither although I did re-install the game and it stopped but sooner or later appeared again. I never understood how the hell games interfered with desktop backgrounds?
GTA4 forums/troubleshooting guides don't have questions similar to yours?

Not the answer just things I would try to do:

1.- Mare certain that I have video, monitor & audio drivers up to date, games usually play better with latest drivers.

2.- Go to "Device Manager" and make sure that under:
a) Display Settings you don't have Std VGA drivers
b) Monitors you don't have Generic PnP monitor
c) Audio you have HD or Digital or correct driver for your system

This happened to me and after making sure I had a x64 monitor driver install, the problem disappeared. No, I am not saying this is your problem but worth a check.
