Vista - Kotor vista error

Hello.
I cant seem to get Kotor to work on my comp. i have Vista ultimate x64, and geForce 9800 GTX with latest drivers. I have looked around on different forums but couldnt find anyone with the same problem as i have.
I have installed the game from the directory using "run in Xp" and as admin, i have patched the game, and updated my drivers.
BUT, when i start the game using the launcher, i get a pic of the millenium falcon (guessing this is the startup loading screen) and then a error message pops up.
The error message is kinda wierd with mostly squares and a few letters, witch are "FAAB square squares ^s6" at the end.
Does anyone know what this is and how to fix it?

There are a few threads floating around here that talk about old games and how you can play them in Vista... have a look around.

If I remember correctly, at the end of the installation, the CD ask you to install DX9... did you do so?

BTW, I hate RPG games but I did love KotOR I & II... I guess I will always be an Star Wars fan.

umm, yes the CD asked me to install it, but i did not, since it also told me that i had a better version. i will try to reinstall and take DX9 this time.
