Battlefield 2 Problems?

Hi,
I'm on Vista x64 with 6GB of RAM, so I thought I would play a really cool game. I lost my copy of BF2 so I had to download a .iso of it. I patched (as in officially patched) the game after I installed it and now I have a big problem: the game then transfers to a black screen like it was loading, but then the game just crashes with no error messages. Can anyone give me a way to get this game to work?

Hello again,
I'm not sure that my graphics card is high enough to run the game. I would try those steps in the link but with steps 2 and 3, I'm not sure where to find some of these settings, since those were for XP. My graphics card came built in, and it is a Intel G33/G31 chipset series. Hope someone can help.
Still frustrated,

P.S. My dads compy runs the game just fine and he has a ATI graphics card, not sure what model, but his is also 32-bit.

900dogsrandy,

With Vista x64, have you tried running it in XP compatability mode as an Administrator? When I first installed BF2 on my new build with Vista x64, I got the black screen, back to desktop at first as well. Running in XP mode and as an Administrator fixed it.

Hmm..if you search Google it seems that some people can run BF2 with that chipset and some can't. The only other thing I can recommend is to make sure all you're drivers are up to date and maybe spend $9.95 for a new BF2 disk (BestBuy). Not sure if running the game from an ISO image is going to cause you problems or not.

Yeah, I did have to download the game from an ISO. I didn't know that Best Buy still sold this game. Can you maybe recommend me some other games like it? (It's okay if you cant find any)

They just released a new patch just for Vista x64. Maybe that will help. :)
I am wanting to play this game again. :)

I've been playing the Battlefield series from day one and have not found another game like it. You can still get the entire series at BestBuy. On the BB website search for the game and then locate the store near you that has it on the shelf. It's also available online and directly from EA's online store. BF2 is a great game and now there is ad on developed by a seperate group, not EA, called "Project Reality" that is absolutly incredible. Google PR and take a look.

I mean like a realistic war game, thats not rated M. It doesn't matter if its set in the future, or the past, I dont care. Its just BF2 is so fun and until I can get a better graphics card, I cant play it. (Also the other games in the Battlefield series wont work, I tried)

Have you played Call of Duty? There are many different older and current (COD5 is new) versions. Also a great WW2 series. COD4 takes place in the middle east and COD5 I believe is back to WWII. Not so sure about compatibility of the older versions with Vista X64.

You're kind of in a tight spot running V x64 with a gpu that can't handle newer games. if the gpu can handle it, it may not be compatible with x64...on the other hand if it's x64 compatible then your gpu may not be able to run it. Go see if you can bug your Dad to swap computers...LOL :zip:

I'm not gonna bug my dad to switch computers, cause he uses his mainly for work. I'll just bug him instead about buying me a new video card. I'll also see if my computer would work with any of the COD games.
I'll ask in this topic if I need more help.

Ok, I bought a new graphics card, its a Geforce 9500GT 1GB. I can play Burnout Paradise just fine with no issues, but BF2 still crashes. I know this graphics card is high enough. Can anyone help me now?

Try going into your Battlefield 2 folder in my documents and delete the folders in it,
C:\Users\*Your User name*\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache, and
C:\Users\*Your User name*\Documents\Battlefield 2\LogoCache

All it is, are junk that BF2 D/L's witch can cause the game to crash at random times.
I play BF2 fine on my system.
