poor frame rates in crysis

I have a GTS 250 and when playing Crysis on Very High 0xAA 1024x768 i get horrible framerates. (12-18FPS) I change everything to LOW settings and the frames still are the same. There must be something wrong. Help appreciated.
Thanks

read , read again , tweak

TweakGuides.com - Crysis Tweak Guide

crysis is a dog , make sure its patched , this guide and all his other guides are fantastic!

and dont try too hard to get it running well in DX10 , this guide will show you how to get it looking just as good in DX9

Nope tweaking is the way forward , if you upgrade your cpu you will be disspointed , crysis is a very gpu intensive game. Youll gain a few fps at best

if your not prepared to put in the time will crysis will run bad on all but the very highest end machine

I was a AMD boy but Intel is far better now days, back in the day it was good for gaming but now Intel has taken over that.
If I where u I would get a quad core in the next few years QUAD are going to be the mainstream CPU.

Yes, but if the CPU isn't fast enough to keep up with the GPU, it's still going to slow the game down no matter how much graphic processing power you're throwing at the game.

I agree ive done alot of research into cpu bottleneck over the years , but he is asking for support for crysis and even putting a new mobo in there and an I7 will only benifit him a few fps (if he leaves the settings low) , certainly not enough to warrant the extra cash , the cheapest way to is to tweak the game , if he upgrades on yuor say so and comes back here complaining what will you say? , its his money your asking him to spend

Absolutely that card will benifit hugely form a better setup , but not for crysis , at low settings the cpu is a bottleneck but who wants to play at low?

edit......found this

http://uk.gamespot.com/features/6182806/p-6.html

see as the eye candy and res is upped the cpu becomes MUCH less important , as i said Crysis is very GPU limited not cpu

Re: poor frame rates in crysis

Crysis is a Resource Hog so, don't go spending money on its account, run the tweaks as Archie123 suggested, then, if you have not already done it, update all your drivers (video & sound), make sure your Monitor (under Device Manager) does not say "Generic or Std PnP Monitors", if it does, you also need to update your drivers.

You will be lucky if you can get 25 to 30 fps with your rig... With crysis and my old rig, I let it dictate the best or optimal settings all on its own.
