XBOX 360 controller with Vista

I recently got an XBOX 360 controller for windows and connected the USB straight into my PC, 'installing new hardware' quickly arrived and it installed no problem.

I can see it in the game controllers on the control panel and it says it is working ok.

However, i loaded up call of duty world at war (which supports the controller) but it just doesnt work........

any ideas??????

Re: XBOX 360 controller with Vista

Is there an option in the game and has windows update downloaded the latest update for the controller. Do you have any other games that support the controller that you can try.

Re: XBOX 360 controller with Vista

can you go onto the control panel again and load up game controllers:

and click on properties, press a few buttons and see if they respond, if not, then a driver problem maybe to blame.

Re: XBOX 360 controller with Vista

right firstly, i downloaded the latest update and installed it, then connected the controller up, it re-installed the drivers fine, and at this point yes i can load it up in the controll panel and everything is fine.

And also now after installing the latest update the number 1 light on the guide light stays lit up whereas it didnt before so thats a good sign.

However i load the game back up and it still doesnt work!!!!!! its so annoying!!!

Re: XBOX 360 controller with Vista

The 360 controller doesn't work with Call of Duty

In GTA IV have you selected controller in the controls? If you played GTA with kb/mouse first, then that will still be the controls.

Re: XBOX 360 controller with Vista

I honestly don't know. I never managed to get it working with either COD4 or 5 yet the controller works fine for everything else.

Some people have claimed to get it working using xpadder, but I can't personally say if it works or not. Those that have got it working also say it's painfully slow with turning etc and therefore pretty much unusable anyway.
