Vista - Issues with installing Freelancer

hello i am having trouble getting freelancer to install on my laptop. it is a dell studio 15 and i am running windows vista Home Premium 64bit. during installation it will start but then gets stuck at a screen that says "creating game folders". does anybody have any ideas or suggestions that can help my predicament out, i really love this game and would like to continue playing it.

how much space have you got left on your ystem?

like over 300gb so i have plenty of room, and i just installed age of empires 2, and the expansion pack for age of empires 2, and the both worked, but not freelancer!!!

Have you tried installing in compatability mode?

yea i tried installing it in compatibility mode for windows xp SP2, but no luck i even checked the box for run as administrator, and also 256 color mode, but all to no avail, im getting kinda frustrated with it

Having a quick look, it will run on Vista.

Have you got any av software or malware software running in the background?

like what do u mean malware software? i have Bit Defender running in the background, could that be the problem

ok never mind roy, thanks for your help, in BitDefender there is a game mode option, and i just checked that, and tried installing it and it worked, thanks for your help though, finally time to get back to shooting me some LSF and Xenos, lol thanks though

Glad you got it sorted. It is always worthwhile disabling any protection software when installing new games. I have spybot search and destroy running in the background and I always have to disable this before installing a new game or app.
