Vista - Halo 2 PC Trouble to get online LIVE

(HOPFULLY SOMEONE CAN GIVE ME SOME GOOD ADVICE)

Ok, Im a First timer for PC games and Exspeically Halo for PC, but anyways i got this game when i bought my PC from www.cyberpower.com (good
PCS) but the game i got with it is a bit confuseing because it tells me to sign in to windows live (first time encountering this site) i know its used for Xbox Live but i do not own one, but i made an account and the game loaded up and :::....
(steps on what it did and i did)

Step1: I Clicked the "live" option
Effect: it told me to choose your Profile, so i did

Step 2: I finally got through all the "join live" registration but yet it keeps asking me NOTE (im online during all this).
Effect: i waited for the windows live registration to pop up and then soon after i pulled the halo game screen back up and it went to full screen it said "sign in to LIVE" so i did and submitted, soon after it said "downloading profile (this could take a few minutes) and, it finally did it and it ASKED ME TO UPDATE HALO 2 or else it will sign me out and as i did it simply told me it was unable to update and told me to check my connection..... i got dial up but i doubt thats the problem..

so anyone could you please help and no smart comments please

its a common problem, updates not downloading when downloading an xbox live profile, mine does it, i just simply download the update from games for windows site here http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...718/Update.exe and install it, now when you sign on, it will just download your profile, but as you are on dial up, it will take a long time, it takes about 5 minutes on my 16MB connection. good luck

Xbox LIVE Link Update and PC games for windows are the same?

what i mean is do they reqiure the same update to play? for first timers?

yes, most games auto update as the companies that make the games find errors after distribution, updates are there to fix any issues which weren't discovered during the beta testing, a prime example is the resolution fixes with the updates on halo 2, my resolution wasn't compatible with the game so i had to settle for a lower resolution, the updates fixed this.
