Vista - A couple of my PC Games have stopped working. can anyone help me rectify this ??

Hi All...

I have A couple of games installed on my Laptop. that have Stopped working.

One has always stopped working as soon as I launch it. it is called:

F.E.A.R Combat

But the Other game I like and has worked fine up utill today is called:

Project Torque.

The error message I am met with is this:

"Game has stopped working,
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if there is a solution available"

Can anyone help me to rectify this please.

I have a few save points so ideally I would rather not reinstall.

lets take a pee in event viewer (type event viewer in search) and go to the windows logs, applications tab. look for errors (red "X" in left column) that have the games in them tell us the event id and source code for them

let us know if you need help with any of this

just save the saves then reinstall

could be a DEP issue you could try disabling DEP for that particular game

DEP - Turn On or Off for Programs

I checked the event viewer for any game errors, but i dont think i found any to do with the games.

I did though go to "Control Panel - problem reports and Solutions - and opene the various error reports for the games I mentioned.
Im not sure if this is what you asked me to show you, but from a different source.
Can you let me know about that plz!

I have always been a little overwhelmed by event viewer and its output.
But I do understand how important and critical it can be for rectifying issues.

I suppose this will give me an excuse to jump in at the deep end and begin to try to understand Event Viewer...

the exception c0000005 is related to an ati device driver in this case. therre are several reports about ati drivers. whats the date and version on the one in device manager. Type device amanegr in search and go to the video tab right click and propeties

Here is the info from my device manager about my ATI driver

Date of driver is: 03/07/2008

driver version is: 8.512.0.0

I have just checked my laptops manufacturers web site, and there is A driver update available for my AT 3650 HD graphics card.

I shall download and install it now...

okay I just updated my ATI Graphics driver from My laptops manufacturers web site.

to the latest driver dated 14/01/2009

and it said it had finished.

and then restarted my system.

I then checked device manager to make sure it had updated.

But device manager is still showing the old driver

Okay I have managed to get project torque pc game now
by completely" uninstalling ATI Catalyst control centre"

And reinstaling the latest ATI Driver from my laptops manufacturers web site.

The game starts fine mow.

but i am still left with one issue.

When I go to Device manager and check the driver version and Driver date of my newly installed ATI graphics driver.
It still shows the old version of the driver, and Has not updated to the latest ATI driver I downloaded and installed from Dell's web site.

I am not sure why this is!

Do you have nay suggestions??
