Vista - Game wont play-compatibility problem?

Redownloaded game using registration key etc. From Desktop i click icon. Screen goes black. A number of posters have tried to help with this on other thread but suggestions didnt fully help but thankyou very much. So here is new question for it-
I went in the FILES and under PROPERTIES a window opens :" COMPATIBILITY:If it worked properly on an earlier version select compatible mode that matches that earlier version".

Run this program. (option to tick)
Windows XP (service pack2) -there are no other options to tick.

then further down:
"Privilege level" -also option to tick
"Run this program as an administrator"
OK

Does this sound like it should get the game playing? and do i run it as administrator-what does that entail exactly? Thankyou

I have no idea if this would work. You need to try it to see. Right click on executable and run as administrator.

INCREDIBLE- THIS HAS WORKED!!!!

Been trying to fix this all week-thankyou everyone who posted their ideas,really appreciate it.
Didnt use my above solution to fix it but someone elses-right clicked the icon on the desktop and ticked the admin part from there.
This created another icon,with a number 2 next to it.

Game is playing but will only let me do so under my name ie. if husband wants to play then he has to do so under my name.the change player section wont let him put his name in. weird hey... so we cant compare scores
