pc gaming is dying out........discuss

With the never ending stream of dodgy console ports were now being offered up as PC games with very few or no tweakable settings and now with games such as Operation flashpoint 2 and Modern Warfare 2 having no dedicated server support im seriously thinking of giving up on PC gaming

As pc gamers we are quite obviously getting the pooey end of the stick when it comes to games releases

Single player games are all very well but wheres the longevity? if i pay 30 quid for a game i want to be able to play it for a long long time , not get bored after a week playing a console port that stutters along and runs like an old dog.

The games developers are just ignoring pleas from the PC community for better support , they dont care simple as that.

NVidias last three official driver releases have been buggy ALL with the same bug , you cant force AA trans AA or Gamma AA through the control panel why hasnt that been fixed???!!

I might just pop round Infinity Ward pay them 30 quid and let me kick me in the nuts.

Please dont flame , i want this to be a discussion not an argument , oh and feel free to ignore it if you have nothing to say on the matter

I am moving my answer here as well :P
It all depends on how you would describe "gaming"

For some people "gaming" is online servers and community, for others it may be the single/story modes. I really don't think we can complain about the campaigns these days, but sure, I agree that for people that want to play online the games may lack support. Allthough I still wish a lot of games that is released on PS3 and xbox (maybe even Wii) could be released on PC too. Hope I didn't go all offtopic here.

Re: pc gaming is dying out........discuss

I play games just for single player, no internet, and I'll never switch to a boring console. Where is the fun of putting together a pc? Choosing the right parts? Wrestling with Windows? And I hate console gaming. I brought a 360 and only bought 4 games for it. Nothing like playing with a mouse and a 22" or so 1080p screen.

PC games will never die out as long as people are willing to pay for the pc's. I'm buying a 5870 within 2 weeks and my 360 will be left untouched. Shooting something is also more enjoyable with a mouse.

Dont you think though Frost that your paying out money all the time to keep your hardware in line with the latest games but more and more being offered poor quality badly coded console ports instead of games that were written specifically for the pc?

I would have to agree, i have spent a small fortune on this machine, (check system specs), OK i may have a top end PC, but thats not much good if all the games i am trying to play crash, lock up, stutter, of have bad controls because it's been ported from a console.

IMO it's all down to ££££'s, the PC market is on the way down, consoles are on the up, so a game is made for a console first then as an after thought it's ported for the PC.

The lack of dedicated servers is just the beginning, the rot has set in.
Also the hardware manufacturers are not helping things with their lack of after care, poor drivers being just one thing that springs to mind.

The really sad thing is that the game makers don't really seem to give a flying f*&% and we are supposed to just soak it up.

Thanks archie123 for the chance to get that off my chest. (nice thread).

I agree with that part too archie. There is way too little developement for PC. The consoles are taking over a lot these days. It should be the opposite way. First PC and then console. I hope this will change.

Partly, but since I prefer PC gaming, I'll continue upgrading and paying.

I enjoy both MMOs and cdrom PC gaming.

I still run Roller Coaster Tycoon 2. Played it just yesterday. I miss Dungeon Seige, I never finished it. In a box somewhere, maybe I'll have time to look for it.

PC gaming didn't seem to have much variety in my area. While there are a few rpg PC games, most of it is hunting and fishing games.

Re: pc gaming is dying out........discuss

Most developers have seem to have just given up on PC, with the exception of some.

I would say Valve are still pumping life in to PC gaming, but they've been quiet for so long, and not had any new announcements, they don't really count.

When Bethesda do release a game, it's good, but again they don't really have a consistent stream of games coming in.

Which leaves EA Games, and tbh, at this point in time, EA are the ones who seem to be trying their hardest with it. They put the most money in to PC Gaming.
