Extreme lag

I've been looking for the solution to this problem and I can't see to find the answer.

I'm a PC gamer and my rig is somewhat alright. Every time I play an online game such as COD:MW2 or any other game, I experience a horrible lag. It's not my internet connection. I've actually replaced the NIC card for a better one and the problem remained.

Not only is it that, but when I play an offline game, I also get the same lag eventually. Everything becomes extremely slow..the sound begins to crack up, and the computer totally freezes. The keyboard and mouse become irresponsive and I'm forced to manually reset the computer.

I've updated my video card and chipset drivers. I've done just about everything. I've even downgraded to Vista to see if the problem would solve, nothing. Then I thought that perhaps my PC was overclocked by default. I entered the BIOS and I changed the setting from EXTREME OC to GAMING. Nothing solved.

The lag only occurs when playing games. Sometimes when I use Photoshop everything sort of blanks out and I have to reopen it again.

Any help someone can provide? Thanks

memory leak?

you could monitor your memory usage while gaming see if its slowly being eaten up by something

also use riva tuner to monitor your gpu temp/core/memory speeds and cpu temp/speed while gaming make sure your card/cpu isnt downclocking for any reason

Umm...isn't that an overclocking utility software?

Well I installed it, how do I get some readings? What do they mean?

yes it can be used for overclocking but in yuor case i want you to use it to monitor all your hardware , its a popular misconception that riva tuner is just for overclocking , its a very usefull tool :)

RivaTuner v2.24c download from Guru3D.com <<download latest version

RivaTuner generic guide - Guru3D.com Forums <<<<< guide (scroll down to the HARDWARE monitoring section

Rivatuner Generic Discussion forum - Guru3D.com Forums <<official forum

run riva tuner hardware monitor while gaming if anything untoward happens like for example your GPU suddenly dropping to 2D speeds you will see it quite clearly mapped out on the riva tuner monitor

if you need any mor specific setup or usage info just shout and we can talk you thriough it step by step :)

PS you can also have all riva tuner's info displayed on an OSD ingame so you can see "real time" whats going on , look that up in the guide too , again we can help with that :)

Its a tad hard for me checking into the forums at the mo as i have a 1 week old baby son taking up alot of my time :p but Skunk can help..............cant you Skunk ;) ;)

OK.

So I downloaded RivaTuner but I'm not sure as to how to get to the "Hardware Monitoring" tab.

OK....rt is a bit of a pig to navigate, but here goes...:p

this pic at the bottom shows the higher & lower customization tabs, as you can see the bottom one is open (this is where your overclock settings are), but the arrow is pointing to the tab you want to select.

RT1.png

open the top tab & move to the last icon on the row (should be a small green graph), click this, a giant graph will appear on your screen showing all components which can be monitored..

head to the bottom of this graph you'll see a red bubble which states ''background monitoring'' enable this & this graph will continue to monitor in the background, allowing you to check your components in ''real-time'' for their activity. :)

I'm not really understand what you're trying to say. :/

There's 2 customize tabs.

The top one I clicked on the first icon (the video card icon)

The bottom tab I clicked on the monitor with a compass in the middle.

Nothing happened.
