FSX won't load up after defragmentation

I bought the boxed FSX Deluxe Edition and when I start the program right after I install it everything runs fine until startup of a flight. I set the settings to max after I ran a system test on my comp saying I could with the 8G of ram, Intel Quad Core and the Nvidia GT220, but it skipped so I figured it was because of FSX being 15Gb and alot of fragmented files. So I ran the defrag and restarted my comp and came back to fly FSX and it wouldn't even start up. I have no idea why it won't, I've tried doing it from startup, going into the disk itself and running auto run and still nothing. I've also tried running as admin and same results
Iv'e tried all of this plus uninstalling then reinstalling three times and same results each time.
I appreciate any help.

No I've got nothin, not even a cookie followin me... I think Norton 360 has got my back when it comes to that kind of stuff. Drivers are up to date through Nvidia, my video card does support DX9 to DX10 exchange.

I think I figured out the problem, when I go to Games in the start menu and run it from there it works fine except for the fact that it shuts off itself later on in the game, specifically during a flight. I guess after havin Windows XP since the beginning I got used to running things the way it was supposed to run. Didn't even know Vista had a games tab on Start.

So now I guess I have a different problem, figuring out why it shots off on its own whenever it pleases, I can do missions but I can't do free flight.

Hello Blue4,
Did you install, and run the game, as Administrator ?.

Is the game patched to the latest release ?.

I had similar problems, but after the patch, everything was OK, still cant take off without going through the bookings hall, (note to self, don't try and fly a plane), but apart from that, it runs OK.

I actually did do that but I also turned off that stupid admin crap because it was messing everything up for me. To tell you the truth I didn't even know there was a patch out, I bought the deluxe edition after vista came out so I figured it was up to date. So you still can't fly your own routes planned out? Man that was what jazzed up my experience for FS9, thats the only reason I upgraded from FS9 was for the graphics, would've never got it if I had known there were this many issues.

Ya it had the patch but I also found a way to force FSX to use all four cores at the same time. It boosted my fps big time and made it possible for me to run Real Environment Extreme with fsx turning fsx into the most realistic looking game I've ever seen.
Pick what your core is and add this to the FSX.cfg:

[JOBSCHEDULER]
AffinityMask=14
1 = 1 core 0001 (cores read from back to front ~ last is first)
3 = 2 cores 0011
7 = 3 cores 0111
14= 3 cores 1110 (free's up the first core for other processes)
15= 4 cores 1111

Ex: I have four cores so mine would look like this---

[JOBSCHEDULER]
AffinityMask=15

Or

AffinityMask=1111

Or google "affinitymask for fsx" and you'll get the same results. I also found that the problem related to fps isn't hardware it's fsx itself in the way it's encoded, everything seems to bottle neck so you could have a $10,000 computer with top of the line graphics cards using SLI and it won't make a bit of difference because FSX goes at it's own pace no matter what. Hopefully Microsoft will come out with a patch that will fix this issue so we all can "really" enjoy FSX like we were promised.

Also just a last bit of helpful info make sure you turn off Vista Aero for FSX, gives a nice little boost. Find your FSX.exe and right click> Properties> Compatability> and check Disable desktop composition. This automatically turns off Aero every time you run fsx.
