Punk Buster and Vista.

When I got my computer (May, 2008) which came with Vista, I also got Battlefield 2142 Deluxe Edition.

I was able to play online without being kicked by Punk Buster for over a year.

When Service Pack 2 for Vista and .net Framework 3.? SP? was released, I haven't been able to play without getting kicked ever since.

Even Balance refuses to acknowledge that PB isn't compatable with Vista.

I've tried all of their recommendations including a complete Reformat and re-install of Vista.

Nothing has worked. I still keep getting the World Famous, "Communication Failure, PnkBstrB.exe, heartbeats stopped" kick.

Anyone ever find the solution?

Hello Ozirus,
Punkbuster is compatible with vista, i use it all the time with no errors or issues.
Go to the punkbuster site and install the manual update software in the game folder and update punkbuster from there.
Also, check your firewall settings.
Hope this helps, good luck and post your results.

If by "manual update", you mean PBSetup.zip, I always do. But if you mean the "per game" files, I'll have to try that.

I am able to play BF2 without getting kicked, as long as I don't have Steam.exe running.

I would think if you had Steam.exe running at the same time it might result in a second process of punkbuster trying to run, hence crashing your game...

Just a thought...

I know. You said you were able to play Battlefield without getting kicked as long as you don't have Steam running. Considering most Steam games run Punkbuster, I was thinking, having Steam running while you were playing Battlefield may have caused the crash... because Battlefield runs Punkbuster as well, hence two instances of the proccess...
