Vista - VISTA will not play WOW...

My video and audio is choppy, i havent had a good frame rate while in the game on Vista. My pc specs are

AMD Athlon X2 3800+ Dual Core (2 GHz)
2 Gigs OCZ 667 PC5400 (4-4-4-12)
1 Gig unknown 667 (Dont know timing)
Nvidia 6150LE (Integrated....I know)
160 gig 7200 RPM HD

Wow requires hardware slightly more advanced than a graphing calculator to run, how am i not able to play with a system like this.

The only thing i can think of is that maybe the different types of RAM are causing problems, maybe the timings are off or something. This is exactly double the spec of my XP machine and on that machine WoW flies.

I dont get it. While not in the game the PC is lightning fast.

Anyone have similar issues with WoW in Vista, if so how'd you fix it?

It's your nVidia chipset drivers. Make sure to use Microsoft's IDE/SATA drivers (for now) and make sure when you update to check under optional compnents for the nForce NIC driver.

There's still something wrong with the hard disk controller driver (that causes strange reset-like noises to periodically eminate from the drive) but my system is much more stable than it was using nVidia's lastest (nForce v15.0) drivers.

Vista doesnt want to support WOW, M$ Recommends you get lives insted of wasting it on this stupid game!

P.S. to OP: some people are actually considering a class-action lawsuit against nVidia over all this.

A lot of WoW players were reporting this issue and experiencing the same thing as you. Fortunately, ati and nvidia for both their perspective video cards put out updated drivers. The latest drivers run fairly smoothly.

However, I have a personal recommendation for you. I would try turning off Aero during gameplay manually and manually re-enabling it afterwards.

To do so, right click on your desktop and choose 'Personalize'. Choose the top option from the menu that will popup. Choose the link near the bottom that says 'Open the classic control panel' or words to that affect. Select your Theme as 'Windows Vista Theme' and not 'Windows Aero Theme'.

Some people commended this has fairly greatly improved their gameplay performance as Aero can use 64mb of ram depending on screen resolution. On a 128 mb video card, that's half. I think your card is a 128mb card? I could be wrong though as I usually shop ATI =)

Windows Aero usually should disable itself automatically but I'd recommend manually disabling it, restarting and then starting wow just to be 'safe' and see if your performance kicks up a few notices.

That or you may need to upgrade/revert to Windows XP as Windows Vista's os has a lot more overhead than Windows XP thus requiring better hardware to get same performance on XP.

Unbelievable! I play WoW:TBC 2.1 and framerates are 10-11 fps before the patch I got 8-10 fps...(And with DX10 i got better performance on vista then XP)and you have a nVIDIA(very good even if its a IGP) and I think it are the drivers,DWM...
maybe you need to download ALL drivers from your pc and reinstall them,defrag,disable DWM

Wow, vista should not be run for at least one more year, it is brand spankin new and is bound to have many problems, (which it does)!. XP works great, OSX Works better. So smarten up and quit being owned my M.S.! (M.S. = Maney Slaves)

Isn't this a forum primarily intended for people who use 64-bit Vista as a place to share user experience and news about the OS? Seems like I'm reading a lot of anti-MS bigotry.

We know XP runs better. We know OS X is superior. We know Linux is free. Let's talk about using Vistax64! I'm thinking most people who frequent an OS forum understand the trials inherent with using a bleeding edge OS. That's why we're here, right? Sheesh!

My son runs WoW on a laptop (Vistax86) with an nVIDIA 7600 Go video card and the rest of its specs less than yours, and it runs like a champ. I would suspect the issue Crito is citing.

I'm running a Q6600 on an nVidia 650i motherboard with an ATI 2400 Pro (craptastic for heavy gaming, great for HD video display/conversion/compiling).

Wow runs a teensy bit choppy unless I turn off AA/AS @ 1280x1024... on a Radeon 2400. As far as I can tell, it doesn't utilize much cpu at all.

Have you done anything to try to up your FPS? Defragging (wow uses lots of HD), moving the swap file to a different HD, drop your AA/AS... stuff like that.
