my specs :

core 2 duo blah balh i know its good.
4gb ddr2 ram
88000gtx(512)
250gb hd
sound blaster audigy 2 ZS
Vista Ultimate 64Bit
all drivers are updated etc

I can sucessfully load up the game and all however whenever i try to join a multiplayer game(says "Joining Server... then crashes" or finish loading a single player game(after the textures are loaded or the shaders it just crashes) OR whenever i click audio in settings my game(right after i click audio it just goes boom) just crashes back to desktop with the BF2142.exe error. I've read about many different crashes with other people but this seems different, people have had crashes during map changes, splash screen, and a few secs after joining the server, havent seen anyone with my problem of crashing when i see the "joining server.." box.

I've tried
1)reinstalling/repatching
2)run the exe as admin.
3)disable UAC and reinstall/repatch after restart

Im pretty sure my computer can handle the game, my old one did fine and this one owns it.

Im kind of lost, I've tried many things and this freaking game just doesnt want to work.

I had the same problem with my Vista 64 and BF2142.
You have to go in to the .con file and set the hertz to 60hz and the game will start.
You find the file in your profile in My Documents Bf2142,,,
I found out that games per auto starts in the hertz 60 on Vista,so change the hertz in the video, con file to 60 and then you can play the game

Rastaman, my game does start and the problem is when i try to join a server i see the "joining server" box then it just crashes, however i did try do change the .con file and the hertz was already @ 60 (VideoSettings.setResolution 800x600@60Hz)

anyone else with this problem?

Ok,,,have you tried to put the hz to 60 in your nickname profile, not the default profile only,,,??
Sorry that it didnt help for you,im glad that i got it going doing so ,,
Good Luck finding the solution :D

okay someone close this thread please
problem was fixed by editing my audo settings via the .con files, i had a friend send me his settings and it works. so w00t, i only get the memory error but fixed it already.

Hello HasJuice,
Here is a fix i found that worked for a lot of people.
Erase the radial.cdb file in the game directory-it will rewrite itself, try this and see how it goes. (radial.cdb is a hidden file, so if you run a search make sure to check the show hidden files box).
If you Google the problem you will see that you are not alone in having trouble with this game.
I don't think you will get a response from vietunit as this thread is two years old.
There are a lot of fixes, so getting the right one first time would be very lucky.
Most of them are centred on the refresh rate and resolution of the monitor, maybe a clue there.
I will assume you have tried compatibility mode and running as administrator, as these are the first things to try, and that the game is to the latest patch.
Good luck with this and post your results.

Here are two more to try, take your pick as to which you try first.

Fix 1.
Go to your documents folder - battlefield 2 - Profiles - 0001 - *

1. There should be a number of .con files in there, you can open these files through notepad or text document.

2. Open audio

3. Find the "Audio Settings.setVoipEnabled 1" line, it should be at the very top.

4. Change it to a "0" instead of "1". This will effectively disable the voip which is what was causing the buffer overrun error.

5. Save it, then check it again to make sure the change has taken effect.

Fix 2.
Uninstall the game.
Go to device manager and DISABLE the sound device that you don't want to use. (In my case I disabled the REALTEK onboard audio because I want to use my X-fi)
Reinstall the game. I got no error message after this.
I cant now join single and multiplayer games

The first by geaphysics.
Second by DannyGrant.

Hope this helps, good luck.
