Is there some new feature in windows vista which allocates hard drive space?
-I installed vista and windows updates (19Gb just for drivers, updates, and vista ultimate)
Here is all that I have installed, now look at how much space is gone. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?
Let me show you:
PLEASE HELP!
I installed some new game demo's... Played them for a bit and uninstalled them, now my hard drive space is just gone and I don't understand how or why. What you see, is exactly what is installed on my computer and that is it.
Here is whats happening with the second hard drive
NOTICE THE TOTAL HARD DRIVE SPACE, THE SPACE THATS ACTUALLY USED AND THE SPACE THAT IS SHOWING AS FREE.
5.65 from 293 is not 274... The hard drive is tripling my Gb used on single files and program installs (Its gotta be a feature of vista that is doing this).
I found the problem, I am posting my fix in the hopes it will help others who run accross this problem.
Alot of hard drive space was recovered for partition one.
To fix partition two I had to take the following steps:
-Copy all files from partition two to a temporary directory on partition one.
Run Windows XP SP2 install by booting from the cd
-Destroy partition two and recreate it with the unused 80Gb which was previously assigned to an old dual boot XP/Vista installation.
-Quick format new partition two and cut+paste everything from partition one temporary directory back over to partition two.
Now partition two allocates space correctly.
The next step was cleanmgr and ccleaner for the registry to be fixed.
