ok well first of all i got arctic silver 5 thermal paste..which is one of the best i heard...and i have the crappy stock cooling that came with the cpu..

it is a q6600, so i need one for an lga 775 socket

thermalright ultra 120 or a zalman cnps9700 or a scythe infinity?

which one would be the best of oc'ing and best cooling and performance?

All three are good highend cpu coolers. From what I have read in reviews the current king of the hill is the ultra 120, but they will all keep your q6600 well within the safe zone. I chose the zalman, even tho they tend to be on the highend cost wise, because of how quiet their coolers run. Keep in mind that if you are planning to use a ram cooler the orientation of your mb layout (ram cooler and cpu cooler might need to occupy the same space) can play a factor when selecting a cpu cooler.

Ye[ the TRUE(ThermalRight Ultra Extreme) along with a good FAN is supposed to be the best HSF for air cooling.
If it doesnt fit in your case (check the dimensions on Thermalright's website) then get the ThermalRight Ultima-90.

i got a full atx case..so get a thermal right ultra 120 with a 120 mm fan right?
not sure about the ram cooling yet..maybe later..dont use much ram

My Computer

hmm not so sure if i wanna go for a thermalright with a fan...kinda big...and prolly wont need that much..the zalman cnps9700 looks reasonable and is well rated...any idea how much ur temps would be at idle with oc'ing?

My Computer

i live in india ,the temps here are always hot,so no use comparing my Idle/Load temps.
Get the Ultima-90 if you dont wanna get the 120 version,i think its better than the Zalman.

Get an Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro if you want to basically turn your CPU into a Popsicle. No really its an excellent cooler, just read the reviews over on Newegg.

I've found the ThermalTake series of coolers to be fairly cool. No Pun intended. Is use the ThermalTake Tai-Chi chassis with built-in water cooling. My CPU has never gone higher than 36C, even on a typical South African summer day.

With slightly overclocked cpus', (3.24GHz vice 3GHz), my idle temp right now is 34 -35. I'm using speedfan: 19 - 20 plus 15. Under heavy load 57 -58. Take in consideration I have the stacker 830 with four 120s', 1 front, 1 side (both intakes), 1 back and one top (exhaust).

Hey asky
Im from bangalore, just wanna know how much that cooler would cost in INR, and yeah what would be the best cooler to go for if have a q6600 and say i just wanna overclock it to 3.4 and keep it there .

cheers

My Computer

Hey Sahitanand,
It would cost you approximately INR 3600~3700 for the TRUE.
(Along with the Scythe FAN , TRUE Alone would be INR 2800)
yep AFAIK that is the best air cooler currently.
Let me know if you need more details.

I purchased the Scythe S-Flex to go with mine. They are pretty quiet and decent cfm (around 83 I think). The more extreme overclocks seem to go with the Ultra Kaze fans from Scythe. Those push around 110 CFM but they have a tendancy to be kind of loud.

My Computer

ouch!!..

3600 is a little out of my budget... anywhere less than 2000 would be fine
cant i just overclock to atleast 3GHz with the stock fan??

My Computer

Honestly, the Intel stock HSF is a piece of junk when it comes to overclocking. Especially when it's a quad core, the amount of heat generated is double that of a dual core. Check out the Thermalright Ultra 90, it may be more in your price range, and a 90mm fan should technically be cheaper as well.

My Computer

yeah that actually fits into my budget very well. But u see when i convert the arctic freezer pro (tideous name) into dollars (the price of it hehe), it fits my budget too but like asky just said....it costs more..

Arctic cooling freezer pro 7 - $34 - Rs.1400 (approx)

My Computer

I dont know if 3Ghz Stock Cooler is possible on Q6600 , if it was E6600 it would have been easily possible.

I suggest you stick to stock for time being and save up enough and then go for TRUE , no poin in getting a cheap aftermarket cooler.
