insert text on folder icon?

I want to keep track of the number of pics I have in a folder .. is there a way to insert text onto a folder icon, so that you can keep track of this?

what i mean by this is actually inserting a number onto the folder icon itself, like "10". this way we would see the folder icon (along with the picture previews of whats inside the folder), as well as this number.

help would be appreciated

Hi IDontKnowTech,

Unless you can find some 3rd party program that will allow this, it is not possible in Vista. The only workaround I can think of is to add the number manually to the front of the folder name, then just update the number as you add or delete from the folder.

It would be nice to have that though.

Mine does too at the bottom of explorer windows. Shows the # of items in that folder. I think what he might be talking about is number to the sides of the folder names, kind of like when you are looking in a mail program and it shows: inbox (3) or something like that.

Yes mine shows the number in the status bar too, but this is not what I am in reference to.

I want to be able to assign the number myself to the folder icon (so you would see the number of items in that folder before you click on it). It would be cool if this number could appear right on top of the folder icon itself -- (in front of it). Anyone else have any other suggestions? Again I want to be able to assign the number myself, to ensure that no pics are lost are misplaced or something.

Is there a way to create your own customized folder, and still have vista display the preview thumbs of whats inside the folder?

Right now the only folder icon that seems to display the preview thumbs is the default folder icon (like the one above). What if I created my own custom folder icons with different numbers on the actual folders themselves, would vista still display the preview thumbs?

Sorry, there is no way to have Vista display the preview picture (thumbs) if you use a different folder icon.
