Re: Can I REINSTALL my Vista from its Upgrade Disc???

Hi Nedywest,

yes you can use it as many times as you want...the only difference is that it is made to upgrade from xp to vista..definitely more than once...not sure if you just boot up the cd as normal

Re: Can I REINSTALL my Vista from its Upgrade Disc???

Hi all, new guy here. I just used a guide very similar to this one to do a clean install of Ultimate 64 upgrade. I must have read it at least five times, but being the noob I am I made a mistake. I got just about to the end of the first install and I think it was restarting for the last time, and I was prompted to hit any key to boot from cdrom so I did....it started over, and then I typed in the product key when prompted. The install finished, and seems to work fine, but I'm just not sure I got a full install or not. I just would like to know if I can delete it all and start over since I used the key. At least I didn't activate it. Any advice would be very appreciated, thanks )

Re: Can I REINSTALL my Vista from its Upgrade Disc???

to tell u the truth if you went through all that u got the full install, and for the sake of your question all you have to do is put the vista cd in the drive, click any button to boot from cd, and when it asks you where to install the files click on your drive and the advanced options and click delete...this will delete all your files and get you a custom clean install

Thanks for the quick reply. That's a relief, I didn't really want to do it over again if I didn't have to.

Re: Can I REINSTALL my Vista from its Upgrade Disc???

@Newfangle the guide states that you need to :
1)Boot from Vista DVD and install Vista WITHOUT entering the key.
2)After the installation (w/o the key) run the Setup again (in Windows ) and this time install it WITH the product key.

I think you have installed Vista twice by booting from the Vista DVD (Correct ?)
If you followed the guide i think you must not have entered the Key yet and so not activated it.

So you need to run the Setup once more time (within the installed Vista) and put the KEY in this time.

Hope this helps.

Re: Can I REINSTALL my Vista from its Upgrade Disc???

I started by booting from the dvd, went throught the steps, and didn't enter a product key number when first prompted, I think I got almost to the end of the first install when it needed to restart to continue. It rebooted, and I was prompted to hit any key to boot from cd/dvd rom. I hit a key, and I believe the install started over ( never got to the first welcome screen). When prompted again. I typed the product key in and continued, so I think I put the key in during a first install. I left the activate when online check box empty, so it isn't activated because I can check how many days I have left to do so. Hope this is clear enough. thanks for the help btw )

Re: Can I REINSTALL my Vista from its Upgrade Disc???

Newfangle9,

You were doing good until you pressed a key the 2nd time when you rebooted after the first install. The 2nd installation MUST be ran inside the first one, not by booting from the DVD by pressing a key.

After the first installation is done. Click Computer -> DVD drive - > Setup file. This will start the 2nd installation within the 1st one.

Re: Can I REINSTALL my Vista from its Upgrade Disc???

Thanks Brink, I'll give it a go as soon as I have time. Just to be clear, I have already entered the product key. I would guess the worst case scenario would be delete and start over if it doesn't accept my key. I just want to be sure the install is correct in the end. Off to bed, night )
