As the title says, ive managed to overclock to 3.8ghz really stable in XP. But vista wont take anything. my rig is below the stock fsb is 1333 i put it to 1350 and it still froze. What am i doing wrong, i see people online have overclocked in vista just the same.

Rig
Intel E6750 @ 2.67
P5N-E SLI
2x WD 500gb hdds
2gb Apacer Ram (2x 1gb)
Zalman 9700NT cpu fan
XFX 8800GT

Thanks in advance for help.

Edit: btw it freezes every time about 30 secs after i see my desktop. Usally just after Nod32 smart securty loads. do you think this could be the problem?

Yer, I dont think its Vista..its probably something you installed. Ill bet if you had a clean install without any extra programs, then it would overclock fine.
Now finding which program is causing the problem..well thats another story.

hey pal....i see u overclocked it to 3.8Ghz. I wanna know if its worth the overclock. Im an avid gamer and stuff. Im about to build a new comp in 2 weeks so just wanna know if i should really go in for a processor cooler right now.
moreover with the q6600 whats the max that i can overclock with the stock cooling??

Re: Overclocking problems, Oc fine in XP, but the smallest overclock in vista = freez

ive had my cpu at 4ghz but it seamed stable but it rebooted my pc after about 10 secs of orthos. the Q6600 is a very hot cpu. stock its at 2.4ghz. Under stock cooling your looking at maybe 3ghz. at about 60-70 degress underload. This is to much for me. I have a Zalman 9700NT and at 3.8ghz my cpu is idling at 38degress and load is about 46.

hope this helps.

Wow those are very nice Temps for a 3.8Ghz Q6600.
