Not your typical vista memory question...

So I've had this issue for a while, but finally figured to ask about it.

Both pre and post SP1 whenever I install a game my memory usage starts to climb. It usually hovers around 30-33% at idle. While installing it eventually peaks @ 99-100% and will drop to about 95-97% after the install is finished. For the life of me I can't figure out whats causing it.

I just installed lost planet and had the same issue. It happened with COD4, Supreme commander, and Crysis too. I've added screnshots from during the install, post install and after I reboot (because the memory does not go back to normal until then).....

Ideas?

Vista uses as much ram as it needs, then frees it when it doesn't. If your system performs sans errors or problems/slowdowns, I wouldn't worry about memory usage.

Re: Not your typical vista memory question...

Negative... I know vista uses the ram it needs. I'm well aware how vista's memory usage works

When the game is finished installing... it should not sit at 95% and when I try to load internet explorer wait 15-20 seconds for it to pop up because there is nearly no available ram. Something isn't normal.

Re: Not your typical vista memory question...

that does sound bad .....

pull the processes page up when its swallowing all that ram find the process using more than 10% should be alot more by the sounds of it find its name
google it see if it can be stopped safely to remove these processes completly requires more knowledge than i have
im sure someone here knows how to alter your registry

Re: Not your typical vista memory question...

Did you even see the images I attached?

I'm well aware how to alter my registry, and I know how vista's memory management works. I work IT for a living, so believe me (not to sound concieted) its nothing "obvious".

Re: Not your typical vista memory question...

I'm not trying to knock you, but you said "someone knows how to alter your registry" I'm simply trying to imply that I know how to do these basic things and am looking for a more in depth reason as to why this is happening, but clearly no one else is experiencing this. Might just be time for a re-format.

Never meant to offend, sorry if it came out that way.
