i'm giving up hope with vista 64

while initially pleased, i am becoming more and more irritated at my decision to buy windows vista 64-bit. after it not being able to recognize my first pci wireless card, my ipod, digital slr camera, or even the RAW image format, i continue to ask myself why did i buy this version?

thoughts...?

What PCI wireless card?

Never had any issues w/ my i-pod, are you getting a particular error message?

Same question w/ camera

As far as the RAW, can you be more specific to the problem your having

the pci wireless card was a rosewill using the marvell drivers which arent supported in x64. windows "can't find" the drivers for my ipod (i've done the search in C:/Windows and it cant find the usb mass storage, ipod, or enumerator drivers), and NIKON doesn't offer vista 64 bit support

Well, that's not a Windows problem is it? Complain to your device manufacturers. I love how people blame Vista for all their problems when it's usually something like this. When drivers aren't available, that's not Microsoft's fault. Developers have had plenty of time by now to get a working x64 driver. You should have checked for hardware compliance BEFORE choosing a 64 bit OS. I don't mean to sound harsh or anything, but really, this has nothing to do with Vista, and everything to do with driver support.

My thoughts are people need to spend some time researching hardware and software compatibility for their chosen Operating System BEFORE they install.

edit: after reading my own post I think I was coming across as being an ass, this isn't my intent at all.

I think others will learn from your experience here....

thankyou.........to true

not saying vista is flawless im sure everyone has had a few niggling factors
but tbf i think i had far more problems in xp with crashes and lock ups lost count of the amount of times i had to do a hard reboot because it froze and that was sp2....... please people give it a little more time to become mainstream

you're not being an ass...you're right i should have done more research.

i would like to point out that i'm happy with vista x64 in that it is more stable and in many respects is better so far than my experience with xp, its just a pain with the drivers and compatibility.

I've half given up with 64 bit - it doesn't run some older apps I use - have 32 bit/64 bit dual boot - use 32 bit 95% of time, and can't see that changing. I was hoping Vista would get 64 bit use going, but it hasn't - and won't, all the stores are selling 32 bit, so there's already a large entrenched 32 bit user base. I suspect it will be next version of windows before 64 bit comes into its own.

so true wolluf...they're already working on Windows 7 formerly known as blackcomb...i bet they will have that out before everything completes its transition to an x64 based operating system...im not saying 64 bit sucks...i use it and so far everything has been going great...there are no drivers that i havent needed to ask the manufacturer for or anything...but yes i can see old digital cameras and various other things having an issue for 64bit drivers...lol the expected release date is in 2010...thats only 2 more years..there transitioning way to fast...vista is just hitting the market...all the businesses and all are still steady with XP
