My experience with raid failing for no reason was poor cable connectivity and/or bad cables. I have a 4-drive raid 0 setup that's been running at least a year. But this was only after I replaced the SATA cables with SATA-2 ones (they have a snap-in clamp and are generally higher quality). No issues since.

Speedfan won't give you drive status on a raid 0 setup. I suggest you take each drive, or at least the "broken" one through its paces using the manufacturer's diagnostic tools, if you're still expeirencing issues after you check/replace the cables. Also, remember to power your PC properly. A momentary loss of current could render your raid 0 inactive. You can get a quality 1000W 6-rail power supply for around $170 (newegg).
