Vista 64 Ultimate.. Activation and Related Q.

No this is nothing to do with Piracy and whatnot, my Vista is perfectly legal (and I have the Credit card bill to prove this.)

I am on my "1st build" and am currently using the "30 day trial" - the reason for this was that I wanted to be sure that everything ran smoothly before I activated the software, mainly because I was unsure about whether or not x64 would play nice (and I may have had to install x32 instead) It does, and I'm chuffed.

My main Q is, should I activate... and say in 6 months time, I have to do a fresh build , I assume that I will be able to without incident (worst case scenario I have to phone MS, but then I did that with XP and had no problems.)

Secondly, should I wish to change Hardware i.e. Graphics card / adding another hard drive (which are about the only two upgrades I'd do to this monster of a machine) after activation, I assume thats allowed ?

yes I know my questions are a bit naive, but I'm a vista N00b so bear with me :)

cheers

you can do whatever you want...as long as you have that key you are fine...with a clean install...it will just ask u for the key again...HDDs and Graphic cards shouldnt be a problem..though i heard replacing a cpu might need another activation...which all you have to do is enter the key again

hope this helps

Next Q - Now that I have gone ahead and activated is there any way I can get rid of the "Windows Vista (TM)
Evaluation copy. Build 6001"
that seems to be engraved on my Desktop wallpaper (short of a reinstall lol)

normally when u do a clean install...it should show build 6000 before activated and go away after 2 or 3 reboots..but u have build 6001..which is vista sp1..not knowin u installed vista sp1..if ur running vista service pack 1 , then it will not go away...but if not and its just 6000 it should go away

go to welcome center >>> show more details..check the top part of it...

heres mine..of course i installed sp1..so mine wont go away until sp1 is fully released in june i believe...but if you dont have the v.668...then u should have 6000 or in a weird case 6001...which should disappear after 2 or 3 reboots..if not let me know..

hope this helps

if u want u could show me images by using the snipping tool provided with vista...jus go to ur search box and type in snipping tool
