Vista - Computer won't log off or shutdown

Occasionally the computer won't log off or shutdown. It won't show anything when I press ctrl-shift-esc and when I do ctrl-alt-delete it brings up a window, but it still wont respond to log off or shutdown options.

If I press the sleep button on the keyboard it sleeps, but then it won't wake back up. The only way to get it to shutdown is to hold down the power button on the computer chassis. But then when I restart windows, it complains that it wasn't shutdown properly.

Does anybody know how to fix whatever might be wrong?

Did you install or change anything before this started?

You can do a System Retore to a restore point dated before this started.

If it is to bad, you can try doing a Repair Install instead of a clean install.
