| Vista Ultimate x86 and x64 | 100% CPU Usage on a clean install? Well hi, everyone, I joined this forum to see if I could get some help. Currently I have uninstalled Vista, and I just have XP and Ubuntu. When I did a clean install on my semi-new franken computer, I was hitting 100% cpu usage, in both x64 and x 86, at idle. I disabled indexing, all services I could, and to no avail. I had Vista x86 running fine on another mobo with the same proc. and less RAM. But now on my seemingly FASTER computer, Vista is SLOWER than ever :P. So here are my specs: AMD Athlon 64 3400+ Seagate 320GB 7200RPM SATA WD 120GB 7200RPM PATA 2 GB *1GBx2 PNY PC3200 DDR* Stock e-machines w3400 mobo, its some MSI I forget the model Sapphire HD3850 512MB PCI-e 2.0 Sony DRU-720A DVD-RW Drive Sound Blaster Audigy SE I've tried installing the ATi Mobo drivers/graphics drivers and still 100% CPU I think I am going to use vLite to make a custom install on my next attempt. |

| vista 64 and vista 32 | Re: 100% CPU Usage on a clean install? I would suggest that you install a legitimate copy of Vista 32. Do this on the disk you intent to boot from. You can isolate the other drives during the install by unplugging the data cable to each of these drives. Once you get vista installed and running you can either remove the boot drive or revert to the previous boot drive or you can connect up the data cables to the other drives and hope nothing goes wrong. |

| Vista Ultimate x86 and x64 | Re: 100% CPU Usage on a clean install? Thanks for the response, vLite will make my copy illegitmate (sp?). Anyway I have done just a single drive running still the same thing. I essientially just want DX10 and thats it, but it seems Vista is more hassle than its worth *DX10*. |
