Just Bought Ultimate x64 - Big Mistake?

Hey everyone,

I have a question regarding the 64bit Vista.

I just build a brand new PC and I thought I would get Vista 64bit. Was this a big mistake?

I have noticed suggestions online to avoid 64bit Vista for now and just use the 32bit version. These suggestions I have been reading are over a year old though so I'm assuming most of the qwerks have been ironed out.

Anyways, was this a mistake? Should I just install the 32bit version?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Wes

this is just an opinion but i don't think it was a "mistake"

i think there are just a lot more apps that just aren't compatible with x64 compared to the 32bit version.

I've been using vista ultimate x64 for about 7 months now, and I have yet to come across a single compatibility issue. The ONLY thing that has caused me any grief is that x86 drivers are normally leaked before x64 ones are. Besides that though, I'd have to say that you made the right decision.

The only other thing that I would suggest is to dual boot your vista OS with XP pro x64 so that you have the extra power while gaming.

x64 no problems at all.

One thing to remember is if you plan on using 4gig or more of ram x64 is the only option.

i think there are just a lot more apps that just aren't compatible with x64 compared to the 32bit version.

So far I have not come across a single program that is not x64 compatible.

There are more problems with just adapting yourself to Vista than any with Vista64. There are a few minor differences between XP and Vista, once you figure that out you will be cruising right along smoothly.
I have no compatibility problems with my Vista64 and I built another for a friend and he loves it too. You will too.

Thank you for all your replies!

I figured it shouldn't be an issue. I have been using Vista 32bit for the past year and it has been working great. My new system has 4GB of RAM so I haven't gone over that mark however I may add more soon.

Thanks again for your help!
