pc starts but without beep!!!

I bought a new graphic card but I needed a wire to install it to. But my power supply didn't have that so I used another power supply but that had 20 pins and my mobo 24 pins. So I bought a converter but it still didn't work. So I installed my old power supply again but now my pc starts without the beep and there is no contact with the monitor. Also these wires (see pic) got loose so I returned them to there places but maybe not in the correct order, is that the problem???

EDIT: ok so now I know its important to have the plugged correct but I need a little help here, these are loose now

powe sw
reset sw
hdd led

power led-

btw. I didn;t mean to unplugg them.

Re: pc starts but without beep!!!

Hi Chilloh,

Can you post the model and brand of your motherboard? This way everyone can look up your motherboard specifications and hopefully find a diagram that will show you how to place them on there properly again.

Re: pc starts but without beep!!!

chilloh,

It seems like the problem was that you new video card required a 6-pin plug, or PCI Express, from your power supply that it did not have. Sometimes the graphics card will come with a converter for the standard 4-pin molex power plugs, or it will accept the 4-pin plug as an option also.

Of course, you unplugging everything did not help. LOL

You can download a copy of your motherboards manual (PDF file in a ZIP file) here:

ECS Web Site

Starting on page 9 of the manual, you will see how to place the cables properly back on the motherboard.

Hope this helps you,
Shawn

Re: pc starts but without beep!!!

When you have the speaker cable plugged back in make sure the polarity is also correct. This can be found by a small triangle on the positive terminal. This will more than lightly be the orange cable as black is normally ground.

Re: pc starts but without beep!!!

chillow,

It depends on your video card power requirements. It's usually either one, but not both. If you have the 6-pin plug connected to your video card, than that may be enough. You should be able to determine if you do in your Video cards documentations.
